12 Things You May Not Know About Cannabis

marijuanaWaking Times

The majority of America has either decriminalized cannabis, or legalized it for medicinal purposes
It’s almost hard to believe when you consider how strong prohibition continues in most parts of the country, but 27 states in the U.S. have either decriminalized cannabis possession, legalized possession and state-licensed retail sales, legalized cannabis for medicinal purposes, or a combination of the three.

Cannabis is an ancient substance
The cannabis plant isn’t new, and neither is its usage. For example; pounds of cannabis have been found in Chinese tombs dating back thousands of years. Going even further back, cannabis is said to have co-evolved with humans, which is likely why it contains such intense medical value for our species. This indicates that the cannabis plant has followed us through most, if not all, our existence.

Cannabis may reduce infant mortality rates
In a drastically important, yet widely under-publicized study examining thousands of infants, those who had cannabis in their system had nearly half the rate of mortality; 8.9 deaths per 1,000, compared to 15.7.To some, especially those unfamiliar to cannabis as a medicine, this may sound a little far-fetched, but the numbers stand strong, and the study is the most comprehensive we have on the issue. We truly hope we see more in the future.

The federal government sends out hundreds of cannabis joints to patients every month

To many legalization advocates this is nothing new, but to those who haven’t heard it before, it’s a shock. As part of a short-lived federal medical marijuana program (yes, the hypocrisy is thick as mud), four people who were grandfathered in receive 300 pre-rolled cannabis joints from the government every month. And they have for years.

The program’s initial existence, and the government’s continuation of supplying these joints, adds an odd layer to the current war on cannabis that sees the feds putting people in prison for years for far less than the 300 joints they supply to these individuals every month.

America is one of the only “developed” nations that doesn’t permit the growing of industrial hemp
Over 30 nations across the world allow for hemp to be grown as an industrial commodity. According to congressional research from 2005, America is the only “developed” nation in the world that doesn’t allow it; although we allow for the sale and production of hemp products.

Hemp can be used to clean up nuclear disaster sites
A process called phytoremediation is used to clean areas suffering from immense nuclear contamination, by using plants to absorb the toxins out of the soil and water.  Hemp is one of the most effective plants for this process, and has been used to clean contaminated soil around the world, at locations like Chernobyl.

Cannabis was once listed in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia
Cannabis was used as the primary ingredient in a variety of tinctures and concoctions prescribed by doctors for a myriad of maladies from 1850 up until 1942, when it wasremoved from the U.S. Pharmacopoeia – much to the protest of many physicians, including the American Medical Association.

Medical marijuana reduces suicide rates
Recent studies have shown states that have legalized the usage of medical marijuana have seen a significant decrease in suicide rates. The most heavily impacted group were males ages 20-29, which saw an 11% decrease. In these same states, there was also a decrease in traffic fatalities.

Hemp oil can be used to fuel cars
Although many people are aware of hemp’s use for things like clothing and rope, one capability is often overlooked: the plant’s ability to be processed into effective, environmentally-friendly biofuel. Hemp oil could easily replace most petroleum products, and it can even be used in place of gasoline to fuel vehicles.

The U.S. government owns a patent on marijuana compounds
Definitively hypocritical, and a sign that the government knows it’s lying and eventually wants the monopoly over cannabis as a medicine, the feds have patented multiple cannabis compounds, and cannabis-related pharmaceutical drugs. One such patent is for cannabis to be used as an antioxidant and neuroprotectant.

Your body produces its own endocannabinoids
Our body is made to accept cannabis as a therapeutic and medicinal substance. As humans, we have our own endocannabinoid system, as well as receptors; the primary reasons it’s so useful as a medicine.Breast milk, for example, is said to contain heavy amounts of naturally-produced endocannabinoids.

    • # 1 NWO Hatr says:

Yeah, digger, but it says NOTHING about green tongues! LOL

      • Steve Apple says:

        Hey #1

        Steve

        • # 1 NWO Hatr says:

          Too bad I don’t indulge anymore. :-(

This “sequestration” has me so broke i can’t pay attention or is it the african shut down the coal industry in this state, anyway I usually always trade(mech.repairs) for my smoke, but no big deal I have hurried up and waited many times. Im way too paranoid for the snail mail delivery system, I do envy the kush guy tell him to hit it once or ten times for me LOL and if Im ever out that way Id love to chk out Henry’s area

I have never heard of those two strains. What ever happened to the good ol` columbian, jamaican, and tie weed of the old days? I sure miss those days. I wish I could get some of those seeds from those strains you mention there #1. I need some good seed stock.

          • diggerdan says:

@ Steve 3:20. I would never mail order any seeds or herb through the mail – I have known people that got busted doing that and people get busted all the time with mail ordering herb. I would find a seed bank or some other outlet and get the most potent strains possible and grow your own. Growing is the only way to go Steve – I`m sure your know that eh. Boy, I sure wish that I had some good seed strains.

          • Steve Apple says:

there’s hydro in these here hills and chances are #1s guy grows the same way or clones and outdoor is awesome with this rich mountain dirt and thats not til june but first its mushroom season (morrels) about 3 wks from now I dont know if its a treat where you are but if you havent tried them you owe it to your stomach.
            Steve

          • # 1 NWO Hatr says:

Nope. Indoors, under lights, in dirt, no hydro.

          • rhumstruck says:

            The only way to grow!

          • # 1 NWO Hatr says:

Like I said, top notch. And btw, $35 1/8 is the best price you’ll find around here. The pharmacies charge at least $45 and up, and this bud is as good as what they charge $55 (their Sour Deisel, which WAS my favorite flavor) and up for.

Again, too bad I don’t indulge anymore, I really liked that stuff. :-(

          • diggerdan says:

@ Steve 6:50. Yep Steve hydroponics is the worst thing that has ever happened to herb. out doors in soil and organic is the only way to go. Yea Steve it is about 1 1/2 – 2 months for morrel mushrooms around here in Wi. You bet they are good brain food. Can`t be beat……………..P.S.@ #1 7:19 good to know they do it the old fashioned way – in pots and useing soil. Hydro pot sucks.

          • # 1 NWO Hatr says:

Liberty Caps – in Oregon (lived there back in ’82, picked my own).

          • diggerdan says:

@ #1 7:21. Yep, the last time I was in Ore. was back in the mid 80`s. and the liberty caps were abundant in them there fields. I like those liberty caps more than those cubensis shrooms. They are all fun though.

          • rhumstruck says:

Sour diesel! one of my favorites! This spring I’m going to have to wander up north and find you Digger! (and bring ya some good seeds!) And I can let ya in on a secret! I mail order seeds from Holland and have never had a problem.

      • rhumstruck says:

I was disappointed, I thought you found the facts behind green tongues!
        LOL

        • Steve Apple says:

I believe the cops training films included the cheech and chong movie where they were selling pot from the ice cream truck and the cops saw cheech eating a limegreen push-up pop ice cream resuting in the green tongue and being dumb assed cops they ASS umed it was herb turning his tongue green. As I consider myself to be an EXpert herbalist (40yrs indulging) I can state for a fact that this is a myth. LOL
          Steve

        • diggerdan says:

Now I`m self concious about that green tongue. LOL
