ZEBULON, N.C. (WTVD) — Hundreds of people met Wednesday evening to talk passionately about the Second Amendment and their rights to bear arms.

Three local sheriffs, including Wake County’s Donnie Harrison, took part in the minutemen’s discussions in Zebulon. The meeting came just hours after President Obama unveiled his gun control plans.

A boiling point in the meeting came about midway through. When dozens inside and dozens more outside of the Fargo Cattle Company Steakhouse bristled about a possibility that the federal government could violate their Second Amendment rights.

“I don’t think that was answered correctly, or really answered at all,” said Wake County resident Jamie Miller.

th“What we didn’t hear is that it doesn’t matter what they say, we’re not going to come and get your guns,” said Wayne County resident Adam Drissel.

What those in attendance heard repeatedly from Sheriffs Jerry Jones, Carey Winders and Donnie Harrison, respectively from Franklin, Wayne and Wake counties, was very similar.

“I’ll quit first, but nobody’s going to take your guns,” said Harrison.

“I don’t see any sheriff going house to house taking weapons,” said Winders. “Folks, there’s more people here than I got deputies. I’m going to tell you that.”

Concern from meeting organizers, the Moccasin Creek Minutemen, and private citizens coincidentally comes the same day as the president’s executive order banning assault weapons and toughening background checks.

“I don’t think it’s going to go as far as people think or thinking it will because let’s face it, you’re not getting mine,” said Wake County resident Adam Page. “I’m not giving them up. I’m 28-years-old. Good luck.”

Each sheriff pledged to uphold the U.S. Constitution, but stopped short of addressing a hypothetical scenario. Instead, they urged the gun advocates to take their passions to lawmakers.

“I think there’s a process that we can do that by uniting and working with the laws and work with people to let them know what our concerns are,” said Jones.

  1. Only a small portion of the evenings televised festivities was played, so it’s difficult to get an overall “feel” of what transpired, but if I was there and had an opportunity to express to the crowd and to the sheriffs what I felt, I would have said to the sheriffs’ “You’re either with us (Those who support the Constitution) or against us.” If 400 of the crowd agreed, I’d think the sheriffs would sense who has the upper hand, at least locally.

  2. “I think there’s a process that we can do that by uniting and working with the laws and work with people to let them know what our concerns are,” said Jones.

You think there’s a process? There’s also a process wherein the effing president can’t just change laws by executive orders – but he does anyway. So you think the people should use legal means to voice their concerns, and then the politicians will represent the people’s wishes? – oh stop, my tummy is jiggling and I’m crying on the floor. 93% said NO BAILOUTS – 95% NO to WAR in Iraq – on and on and on, they do not give a rats behind what you think or what you want.

  3. Never lived in a county with an honest and law abiding sheriff or sheriff’s department. They have all been crooked as a dog’s hind leg, and “the people” are the very last ones they are working for. The people are their cattle to herd, following the orders of their bosses, the politicians, judges, and bankers.

How it is. The policeman is not your friend, children.

  4. Passing 24 executive orders against legal gun owners did one thing for you O’Bama. It made you and Washington DC… irrevalent.

  5. I can honestly say there has only been ONE Sheriff that I’ve met in here in L.A. that I actually liked. We used to run into each other fishing at different lakes in the area, and would fish together for a while, and converse. He really was a decent guy. I haven’t seen him in years, and I really hope he’s retired by now.

Once the SHTF, he’s the ONLY cop I’d really hate to have to shoot.

    The ONLY one.

    1. I honestly think that when it comes down to the wire, Most of the Sheriff’s and their Deputies will understand that they are in the same boat as us and will do whats right.

      1. I think when it comes down to it….Most all Sheriffs know and understand we will shoot their sorry ass if they stand on the wrong line…….PERIOD!!!

  6. What the federal government will do is cut off all federal funding to law enforcement if they do not collect the weapons. Then every law enforcement agency will do what the feds tell them. BTW, EO are not law, will never be law according to the constitution. Only congress can make federal law.

  7. People tend to forget the government has spent years infringing on the Second Amendment, and our great champions the NRA did nothing to stop them. As any military strategist will tell you, it’s not necessary to disarm your enemy to beat them. You just need superior firepower and tactics to win.

If, as most of us believe, the primary reason for the Second Amendment was to ensure the people would be armed on par with forces likely to come against them, we’re already at a distinct disadvantage. Even police now have armored personnel carriers, drones, and automatic weapons. They have unlimited access to databases on you and your families- where you live, work, and spend your money. So let’s stop shouting about what might happen when it already has. These latest usurpations are simply more criminal acts along the same tired continuum of corruption and tyranny.

It’s great to have frank discussions with LEO, but maybe another good idea will be to hone up on SEER training and asymmetrical tactics while we’re at it.

    1. The armored vehicles you speak of is a limited weapon, they are feared of us being armed because, eventually somebody has to go door to door, I can point to the war in Afganistan, The most advanced weapons available has not stopped the resistance, a hundred thousand troops has not stopped them yet. and the weapons they have are at least 30 years old. Also: I agree with you about the NRA, Hollywood took them over years ago and changed the voting privilage from lifetime to 5 year membership.

      1. If they’re in a tank you just have to take out the treads, same with vehicles (take out the wheels).

They can build all the big and bulky stuff they want, everything has a weak spot.

  8. a sheriff is a politician and must get voted in. if he is in a county of many gun owners he has to make believe he is on their side. we will see if they arrest feds trying to enforce a law if they pass it

    1. Uka,..many of them talk amiable and downright Patriotic….I agree with you….Lets see what happens when the boat takes on water!

    2. L.A. County Sheriffs are NOT voted in. They’re hired, just like any other city cops around here.

And, if possible, most of them are even worse than the city cops.

      But granted, not by much.

      1. This does not surprise me in the least. Here in Utah several years ago, We lost our right to elect Judges and now they are installed. Every so often on the ballot there is a question to keep them on the bench or not. There is no opportunity to find an Honest Judge.

          1. It takes approximatly 13 years of appeals to to send a cold blooded killer to his death. I haven’t researched the last Hanging in Utah, But i bet it was close to 100 years ago.

  9. I’m confused. Is there not a Constitution of, and for, the UNITED STATES CORPORATION in the District of Columbia and a Constitution of the United States of, and for, We the People of the United States of America?

Which government is taking away our guns??

      1. Washington DC is not a state, But yet it has a Mayor, Elected under all the Rules of the Constitution, But somehow Congress makes the rules in that City. By the way, DC stands for District of Criminals!

  10. Remember, the commander of the Japanese fleet remarked “we could never attack America, they all have their own firearms”(now 80million).
First we NULLIFY, then we lock and load.

    1. Yes I remember, But It was Admiral Yamamoto, He said they could never invade the Main-land of the U.S because their would be shots from behind every blade of grass.
