Chili’s Waitress Fired Over Facebook Post Insulting ‘Stupid Cops’

AOL – by Claire Gordon

If you’re a teacher, and want to keep your job, don’t mock your students on Facebook. If your boss is a Jewish community leader, and you want to keep your job, don’t post photos on Facebook of yourself covered in swastikas. And if you’re anyone who wants to keep your job, don’t go on Facebook and insult a police officer.

A waitress at an Oklahoma City Chili’s made that error, when she posted a photo of three Oklahoma County Sheriff’s deputies on her Facebook page along with the comment: “Stupid Cops better hope I’m not their server FDP.” (A handy abbreviation for F*** Da Police.)

The woman, Ashley Warden, might have had reason to hold a grudge against her local police force. Last year she made national news when her potty-training toddler pulled down his pants in his grandmother’s front yard, and a passing officer handed Warden a public urination ticket for $2,500. (The police chief later apologized and dropped the charges, while the ticketing officer was fired.)

Warden’s Facebook post quickly went viral on law enforcement sites, reported Oklahoma City TV station KWTV, and Chili’s was barraged with calls demanding that she be fired. Chili’s agreed. “With the changing world of digital and social media, Chili’s has Social Media Guidelines in place, asking our team members to always be respectful of our guests and to use proper judgement when discussing actions in the work place …,” the restaurant chain said in a statement. “After looking into the matter, we have taken action to prevent this from happening again.”

“Involvement in the local community is something Chili’s prides ourselves on,” the statement added, “and we are proud to partner with local law enforcement officials in our more than 1,200 restaurants throughout the U.S.”

  1. I am copy/pasting a comment off another website..I knew all of this already, but person explains it quickly and no use re-inventing the wheel. I told so many people to not get on facebook. Most here know the reasons why, but here is another take:
    EU research found that:

Employers use Facebook as a recruitment tool
50% of HR read Facebook to decide who to interview

A quarter of all job candidates CV’s are rejected due to Facebook.

So if you can’t get a job… then check your Facebook profile. Most don’t see the connection between Facebook and unemployment – but it’s a HUGE connection.

Facebook isn’t much fun when employers can see photo’s of you being drunk and throwing up in the front garden…
You can guarantee one thing – you won’t even get an interview.

The use of Facebook is basically saying say bye bye to your career, job, employment.

  2. Next time you’re deciding where to go out to eat, I hope you scratch Chili’s off your list. Go to a local mom ‘n pop restaurant where they a) care what your “food experience” is like; and b) respect the first amendment protected rights of their employees. And, you’ll be supporting your local economy, instead of donating your money to some corporate office somewhere.

If enough people refrain from EVER eating at Chili’s again, we’ll see how their “Involvement in the local community” goes over. Would love to see them go the way of some of the other big box establishments.

C’mon folks. It’s boycott time. We can’t make change unless we “put our money where our mouths are.”

  3. Yep, I basically got fired from my teaching job at an International Pre-school in Shanghai because some stupid parent (most of them were high profile, government parents, mind you) and the director decided that the pictures of my wife and I (clearly none of their business) and some pictures of the students on my Facebook page were inappropriate, thought I was some pedophile or perverted porn star or something (these were their words) and told the U.S. Embassy and the local Chinese police who then basically forced me by court order to re-format my entire hard drive of all my personal info. as well. This was in 2009 when it was all starting. Mind you, I had all of my profile private, yet someone managed to get onto my page and see it all. As far as the pictures go, they were wedding pictures of my wife and I and just pictures of kids in the classroom. Yea. Those pictures were clearly pure evil. (sarcasm)

From then on, I closed ALL social networking sites and told everyone I know that they are fools if they are still using them. I can’t believe there are still people using these social networking sites after all this time.

By the way, since this was an International school, it was all Westerners running the joint as well as the parent’s kids who were attending there. If that was in a local Chinese school, no one would give a shit and everyone would be happy to see that their kid’s photo was on their teacher’s website. But nope. Not Westerners such as Europeans and Americans. Gotta sue or arrest someone for everything. Big Brother style.

  4. FAcebook is a government “operative” at this point, happily sharing all your data with Big Brother (for a chunk of YOUR tax dollars). Facebook, working hard for the NAZIS.

  5. For some reason, Zuckerburg reminds me of “Pig Vomit” in Howard Stern’s movie, Private Parts.
