When Rowan University named New Jersey Governor Chris Christie a speaker at its graduation ceremony, I decided to write a song about it. Between the bridge scandal, misuse of funds for Superstorm Sandy aid, and our $24 million special election, I had plenty to write about. The lyrics are below, complete with links to sources. Thanks for watching!

Hey Governor Christie (Tell Us What You’re Gonna Say)

Hey Governor Christie, tell us what you’re gonna say
When you give your graduation speech on graduation day
Rowan University has given you the call
So tell us what you’re gonna say now that we’ve heard it all

The traffic on the bridge might not have been your fault it’s true
But before we can absolve we need to know just what you knew
The investigation cleared you yes but we don’t think it’s funny
That you hired your own lawyers and you paid them with our money

You wore your blue fleece jacket as you shook Obama’s hand
In the wake of Sandy teamwork seemed to be the plan
But as the flood receded from the beaches of New Jersey
You used a flood of federal aid to keep your face on TV

Our honorable senator Frank Lautenberg had passed
So to fill his shoes you called for an election day and fast
Instead of waiting three more weeks you did incur the cost
Of 24 million dollars just so you could stay the boss

You earned a baccalaureate degree from Delaware
You earned a J.D. too from Seton Hall and that is fair
But your Rowan honorary scroll will read in fact “Dear Gov:
Hey thanks for all the money, from the president, with love.”

You came in with such gusto and an honest way of speaking
But now that you’ve eschewed the truth your polls have seen a beating
We liked the way you sounded like you lived right down the block
But now the way you’re talking sounds like CNN or Fox

We thought that you were different, we thought that you could tell
All corrupt and greedy politicians, “Go to hell!”
But now we know that we were wrong and you’re like all the rest
Using our tax dollars to protect you from arrest
