CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland police officer fatally shot Tamir Rice immediately after leaving his moving patrol car while his partner stayed at the wheel, surveillance video shows.

The video showed Wednesday by police captures the Saturday afternoon shooting at a West Side recreation center in which 12-year-old Rice was shot.

The video contains no audio.

A rookie officer pulled the trigger, said Jeffrey Follmer, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association.

Police were sent to the Cudell Recreation Center at Detroit Avenue and West Boulevard about 3:30 p.m. when someone called 9-1-1 to report a “guy with a gun pointing it at people.”

The caller told dispatchers twice that the gun was “probably fake,” but that detail was not relayed to the responding officers, Follmer said.

This is a developing story.

  1. OK, this yet another version of what happened. It seems nearly impossible sometimes to get a straight story. We’re still hearing different versions of the Brown shooting despite the Grand Jury findings. I guess the best course is to reserve judgement until all sides have their say, and then judge for ourselves.

  2. That is pathetic. Our police to dumb to even stop and look first just shoot. Another reason I would never let one go hunting on my property. People like that are to trigger happy. That was murder on site. I know people who have got big fines for shooting before looking on Pheasant and ducks. The cops get a pat on the back. I think that proves we are worth less to them than a wild animal by far. Maybe that is why so many dogs are shot as well. They are going to have to have there firearm permits pulled for sure. And denieghed a hunting permit. All there is to it. Can’t have those type out and about with guns. Don’t even look before shooting. Why they were on the property how much livestock would a person loose before the end of the day. It moved I shot it type for sure. Red would not help you a bit around shuch people.

  3. Anyone with any common sense would have watched that kid for 10 seconds and seen he wasn’t a threat to anyone.
It’s a park. The cops could have calmly parked their car, watched the kid for a bit, then engaged him in some FRIENDLY manner and assessed rightly …
    He’d still be alive.
But no, they decided to roll right up on him, jump out and be dicks.

  4. I’ve been following this one from the start. I figured it was a secondary escalation of racial tensions to supplement the Ferguson production.

That was nothing short of COLD-BLOODED MURDER!!!
