Costa Mesa Mayor Proposes To Shut Down Soup Kitchens To Deal With Homeless Problem

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) - The mayor of Costa Mesa proposed to get rid of soup kitchens to deal with the area’s homeless problem at a city council meeting on Tuesday.

“My belief is that if we manage to put the soup kitchen out of business that will go a long way to addressing the attractiveness in our city that’s creating a huge negative impact,” Eric Bever said.

According to Bever, the “negative impact” is homeless people who like Costa Mesa because of services that offer food to less fortunate individuals.

Clients at Someone Cares Soup Kitchen and the non-profit Share Our Selves were stunned by the controversial comments.

“It’s very hard to come here. I’ve been a very self-sufficient person my entire life,” said a tearful Mary Raphael. “When I need some help, I’m told I’m trash? It’s not a very kind thought.”

Shannon Santos, the executive director of Someone Cares, said nearly half of her clients are low-income seniors and most of the people who eat there live nearby.

She said she’s thankful the mayor will be termed out of office next month, but still offered him an invitation.

“My open invitation is for him to come in and have lunch with me,” said Santos.

Not that unusual of a concept coming from “The Land of the Not Quite Right”. Ignore the underlying cause & make the symptom illegal.

My open invitation to him is to take a long walk off of a short pier.

Either that, or to choke to death on that next prime rib dinner.

Deal with? I thought that was the purpose of the soup kitchen. The homeless are not a “plague” … it happens in times like these. And he should be thankful the homeless have a safety net like the soup kitchen. Perhaps he isn’t looking close enough into the mirror … he could have been in that line one day. But not now …

First they came for the Homeless, and I did not speak out–
    Because I was not Homeless.

Then they came for the Unemployed, and I did not speak out–
    Because I was not Unemployed.

Then they came for the Christians, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Christian.

Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.

Citizen’s Arrest of this mayor(and others), confiscation of all monetary and physical property/assets to go to charity(A LOCAL charity, not overseas), and at LEAST a 6 month sentence. 6 months..because I want him to come out homeless sooner, rather than later..to see his stupidity, and inhumanity, first-hand!
Hell, I’d go s far as making him work on a Monsanto farm for a year for minimum wage as punitive restitution…but thats getting carried away isn’t it? *shrug*
But he shall get NOTHING for this. Sad.

    He’s a bitch…a brainwashed, sheep-herded bitch!
Sorry for the profanity, but I deem it just in this instance.

Yeah “Ignore the underlying cause & make the symptom illegal.”.. What ignorance he just purveyed . . . no more suckups in office! Who was that to impress – - he only works for the elite Big Boys? I second the notion. No jobs for the man . . . or an assignment to eat nowhere else but the soup kitchen. I have been homeless for a few years and you get fed, but like the man said, it gets tiring to have the same simple foods – no steak, etc., and live without having a CHOICE of what you want. Get real, man! The next thing to put the spotlight on is : WHO IS HE AFFILIATED WITH THAT IS ASHAMED OF A HUMAN BEING WHO NEEDS FOOD, A BED TO SLEEP IN (Oh and don’t forget we ALL USE BATHROOMS DON’T WE? The most elite still have to – uh – you know . . . .). chamber of commerce? La Raza? Governor? State Attorney? The Rich Church of the Atheist Best Dressers? The same goes for those who ARREST people in Orlando (for one) for FEEDING the homeless! Maybe we could make a law that says as long as they only drink a 12 oz. drink with it – versus the 16 oz LARGE – as Mr. Bloomberg RULED . . . well then we could still have food for the homeless. Boy are you asking for a lifetime of hunger! Even if you aren’t spiritual/religious, you’d think people would have a sense that perhaps in the next ”time” around, this might go to them!
