Coup d’etat

Paul Craig Roberts

The American people have suffered a coup d’etat, but they are hesitant to acknowledge it. The regime ruling in Washington today lacks constitutional and legal legitimacy. Americans are ruled by usurpers who claim that the executive branch is above the law and that the US Constitution is a mere “scrap of paper.”

An unconstitutional government is an illegitimate government. The oath of allegiance requires defense of the Constitution “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” As the Founding Fathers made clear, the main enemy of the Constitution is the government itself. Power does not like to be bound and tied down and constantly works to free itself from constraints.

The basis of the regime in Washington is nothing but usurped power. The Obama Regime, like the Bush/Cheney Regime, has no legitimacy. Americans are oppressed by an illegitimate government ruling, not by law and the Constitution, but by lies and naked force. Those in government see the US Constitution as a “chain that binds our hands.”

The South African apartheid regime was more legitimate than the regime in Washington. The apartheid Israeli regime in Palestine is more legitimate. The Taliban are more legitimate. Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein were more legitimate.

The only constitutional protection that the Bush/Obama regime has left standing is the Second Amendment, a meaningless amendment considering the disparity in arms between Washington and what is permitted to the citizenry. No citizen standing with a rifle can protect himself and his family from one of the Department of Homeland Security’s 2,700 tanks, or from a drone, or from a heavily armed SWAT force in body armor.

Like serfs in the dark ages, American citizens can be picked up on the authority of some unknown person in the executive branch and thrown in a dungeon, subject to torture, without any evidence ever being presented to a court or any information to the person’s relatives of his/her whereabouts. Or they can be placed on a list without explanation that curtails their right to travel by air. Every communication of every American, except face-to-face conversation in non-bugged environments, is intercepted and recorded by the National Stasi Agency from which phrases can be strung together to produce a “domestic extremist.”

If throwing an American citizen in a dungeon is too much trouble, the citizen can simply be blown up with a hellfire missile launched from a drone. No explanation is necessary.
For the Obama tyrant, the exterminated human being was just a name on a list.

The president of the united states has declared that he possesses these constitutionally forbidden rights, and his regime has used them to oppress and murder US citizens. The president’s claim that his will is higher than law and the Constitution is public knowledge. Yet, there is no demand for the usurper’s impeachment. Congress is supine. The serfs are obedient.

The people who helped transform a democratically accountable president into a Caesar include John Yoo, who was rewarded for his treason by being accepted as a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt school of law. Yoo’s colleague in treason, Jay Scott Bybee was rewarded by being appointed a federal judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. We now have a Berkeley law professor teaching, and a federal circuit judge ruling, that the executive branch is above the law.

The executive branch coup against America has succeeded. The question is: will it stand? Today, the executive branch consists of liars, criminals, and traitors. The evil on earth seems concentrated in Washington.

Washington’s response to Edward Snowden’s evidence that Washington, in total contravention of law both domestic and international, is spying on the entire world has demonstrated to every country that Washington places the pleasure of revenge above law and human rights.

On Washington’s orders, its European puppet states refused overflight permission to the Bolivian presidential airliner carrying President Morales and forced the airliner to land in Austria and be searched. Washington thought that Edward Snowden might be aboard the airliner. Capturing Snowden was more important to Washington than respect for international law and diplomatic immunity.

How long before Washington orders its UK puppet to send in a SWAT team to drag Julian Assange from the Ecuadoran embassy in London and hand him over to the CIA for waterboarding?

On July 12 Snowden met in the Moscow airport with human rights organizations from around the world. He stated that the illegal exercise of power by Washington prevents him from traveling to any of the three Latin American countries who have offered him asylum. Therefore, Snowden said that he accepted Russian President Putin’s conditions and requested asylum in Russia.

Insouciant americans and the young unaware of the past don’t know what this means. During my professional life it was Soviet Russia that persecuted truth tellers, while America gave them asylum and tried to protect them. Today it is Washington that persecutes those who speak the truth, and it is Russia that protects them.

The American public has not, this time, fallen for Washington’s lie that Snowden is a traitor. The polls show that a majority of Americans see Snowden as a whistleblower.
It is not the US that is damaged by Snowden’s revelations. It is the criminal elements in the US government that have pulled off a coup against democracy, the Constitution, and the American people who are damaged. It is the criminals who have seized power, not the American people, who are demanding Snowden’s scalp.

The Obama Regime, like the Bush/Cheney Regime, has no legitimacy. Americans are
oppressed by an illegitimate government ruling, not by law and the Constitution, but by lies and naked force.

Under the Obama tyranny, it is not merely Snowden who is targeted for extermination, but every truth-telling American in the country. It was Department of Homeland Security boss Janet Napolitano, recently rewarded for her service to tyranny by being appointed Chancellor of the of the University of California system, who said that Homeland Security had shifted its focus from Muslim terrorists to “domestic extremists,” an elastic and undefined term that easily includes truth-tellers like Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden who embarrass the government by revealing its crimes. The criminals who have seized illegitimate power in Washington cannot survive unless truth can be suppressed or redefined as treason.

If Americans acquiesce to the coup d’etat, they will have placed themselves firmly in the grip of tyranny.

  1. George W. Bush infamously referred to the Constitution as that “GD piece of paper”, and called himself “the Decider”. Obama ran for POTUS as a respecter of civil liberties, but has shown himself to be WORSE than Bush. The real coup d’etat was Lincoln’s shredding of the Constitution. It sickens me to think that we were taught to revere that tyrant. The sheeple will remain complacent until the USSA police state has fully descended upon them.

    1. Hi Monnie, I agree with what you said except for the part about Lincoln. Lincoln got stuck between a rock and a hard place…and it was planned. He couldn’t go right and he couldn’t go left. The southern states dissolved the Constitution, not Lincoln. Lincoln had two choices… watch the southern states be corrupted and influenced by other countries which would lead to despotism for the south, or try to bring them back into the union by force. Lincoln went to the banks to ask for funding and they wanted him to pay a huge astronomical interest rate…Lincoln said no. Lincoln then introduced the Lincoln greenback…interest free currency bypassing the banks. Lincoln wasn’t shot in the back of the head because of the war with the south…he was shot in the back of the head because he did a run around on the banks. JFK tried the same thing, what happened to him? Shot in the head. The civil war was a sham of a mockery of a shamockery. It should never have happened. Lincoln even tried to warn everyone right before he was assassinated.
You want to blame someone for the civil war I will point you to the house of Rothschild.

      1. Hey Tammy,

I had many of the same opinions that you had shared having been raised North of the Mason Dixon Line. After a family marriage to decidedly Southern Folk, I had the chance to hear it from an AnteBellum perspective. I was open to hear from trusted members of my family. Then ran across a Lew Rockwell article that did an excellent job of explaining much that seem odd.

        Cheers~

P.S. I find it very interesting the New England area has been the center of so much turmoil in the history, from the religious fervor of the Salem Witch travesty, continuing such ardent passion with believing blood must be shed as abolitionists, up to today’s world of being driven with Political Correctness. Quite impressive that so little geography has made such a lasting impact on the country as a whole.

  2. “Americans are oppressed by an illegitimate government ruling, not by law and the Constitution, but by lies and naked force. Those in government see the US Constitution as a “chain that binds our hands.”

And that’s a chain that I see unraveling link by link and day by day, as they grow bolder, more arrogant, and more confident of their (self-assumed) supremacy.

  3. Tony Blair tried a velvet coup here in the UK, an innocuous bill going through parliament known as the legislatory reform bill seemed an innocent bill deemed to remove red tape.

Contained within it was buried deep a rather startling series of changes, that under a Civil Contingencies Act crisis, the Prime Minister would be given the ability to make permanent changes to the law, parliament and that control of the land would pass to the cabinet bypassing Parliament and Crown.

This meant that El Tel and his merry bunch of New Labour wizards only needed a suitable crisis to declare a CCA and nothing, not a thing would have stopped him if he declared himself permanent leader of Britain, he would have had absolute rule by edict and decree and basically he could have declared democracy over, the Crown ended and Britain would have lost parliament leaving Blair and his politburo instead and not a thing could have stopped him if the opposition hadn’t been given this information and the LRRB ended up in flames. That is how close to having a fascist dyed in the blood dictatorship along the lines of V for Vendetta which perhaps Alan Moore was trying to warn us about.

    1. I agree Blair was a dangerous wanna-be dictator and I’m still not sure how we managed to avoid his jackboot rule. It may have something to do with his past as Miranda, dealt with by the courts under his middle names of Charles Lynton, which could have given the US government enough control to move him elsewhere.

For those unfamiliar with the case put Miranda/Charles Lynton into your search engine. The story uncovered by T. Stokes is quite an eye-opener and illustrates just how sordid high politics can be.

  4. Dr. Robert is 100% correct in his assessment of this situation. I was employed by the US Department of Defense for over two decades, in various positions and locations around the world. From Japan to Bosnia, Croatia to Korea…I witnessed corruption and abuse that was both localized and systemic. Upon my naive failure to participate in the minor-league corruption, the Chain-of-Command gave me a lesson in the treatment of those who refuse to go-along-to-get-along. I became a “Federally protected whistle-blower”…and that I secretly tape-recorded my boss telling me how the “system”…(the CoC) would “get me”… he explained how they would make things up, transfer me…target my family…gangsterism really? For over two decades the CoC tried to punish me for various infractions, made-up DUI’s etc.! When they could not catch me for anything, they finally tricked me into a retirement agreement, that they have now violated? So Dr. Roberts is very correct…many of you people have no idea what is about to happen…and I hope you start to get prepared. I don’t care if the man or woman in office is white, black, yellow or orange…I don’t care if their parents came from China, Russia, Germany or Africa…I do care that they believe in the founding principles of this country…and that they are willing to defend those principles. We tin-foil-hat-folk have been trying to tell you for years..and they are doing their best to stir up “constructive tension” around the country in order to justify the deployment of troops…

We need to be ready…the moment they break the Constitution in a tangible manner…to open Grand Juries and indict/impeach these people…after we begin to convict the Bush family..we can move on to hanging Hilary Clinton… Bill….Chelsea…convict them all of generational treason and let us start hanging them all…If they attempt to deploy troops against us..we need to be ready to completely overwhelm them from a people and guns perspective… from the first moment of confrontataion…let us see if these bad-ass cops are still so bad-ass after they have millions of armed, angry people chasing their Constitution violating souls down the alley-way…let us see if they are still so brave…?

  5. In the past it seemed laws, courts and enforcement used to put a halt to criminal activity in government by persons who couldn’t find their way around it. Well, we STILL have laws and courts, but somehow the enforcement part has been paralyzed. To me that is the biggest missing part of the equation. Technically all these government lawbreakers are “accessories after the fact” in supporting this crooked system of constitutional abuses. Perhaps someone can tell me if it is illegal for a politician who has sworn by oath to protect and preserve the constitution to engage in actions contrary to and undermine it?

If you see a policeman turn his head and allow a bank robber to flee, what can be done about it? What is the part that engages the “wheel” of enforcement here? In general we need to take the grease off that wheel and apply something to give it traction again. Any ideas?

    1. If the police don’t do their job, the only alternative is for WE THE PEOPLE to stand up and do the job for them. That’s your answer, N Walker.

  6. The TRUE reason for the civil war was that sea-bourne supply lines were prohibitively expensive in those, not to mention time consuming.

The international banksters then devised the plan to split the U.S. into two countries, after which they could then install a central bank in each country, create wars between the two, loan money to BOTH sides at exorbitant interest (usury) rates, and after the dust settled, loan them still MORE money (again, at exorbitant interest (usury) rates) to rebuild, sit back and reap massive profits. They even had ideas of then splitting the two separate countries into even smaller countries, installing central banks in each, starting more wars, and so on and so forth.

They’ve done the same sh#t throughout much of history.

    War by deception.

  7. Paul,

Thanks for the article. I’ve been reading your articles for a long time wherever they appear. I agree completely. The problem is HOW do we extricate ourselves from the situation.

We need clear guidance on what remedies we can take and how to implement them and gain traction while facing the usurpers. There is an awakening underway I’m sure, but how do we make the best use of this?

I know each of us can be creative and take personal initiative but some ideas and concrete suggesstions would certainly help.
