“I don’t think we have the right to keep and bear arms anywhere we want” says Leah Bolger, president of Veterans For Peace and former Occupy protester. “I think that’s a problem when one person exercises what they think to be their rights but it infringes on someone else’s right to feel comfortable and secure.” She goes on to call for businesses to put up “gun free zone” signs. “I certainly will not be patronizing businesses that allow people to walk in with a loaded gun”…”I disagree with others who say this is an issue in search of a problem. I think it is a problem when people see people carrying weapons in the open and they are afraid. it is intimidating, and it’s meant to be intimidating”…”To me it’s like second hand smoke. You can’t enjoy your right to smoke without effecting other people. Just like when I can see your loaded weapon on your hip, that’s intimidating to me.”

“Is it a big problem, people openly carrying firearms in Corvallis? I don’t think so” says Janet Rasmussen, but she wants an open carry ban anyway in Corvallis. “You see somebody walking around with a rifle, which I really haven’t seen… you don’t know if they’re going to go crazy and starting shooting in a minute”…”People who carry loaded firearms all the time, tend to be very fearful people”…

“I would ask you to move to prohibit open carry, and I don’t think that has anything to do with restricting 2nd Amendment rights…The 2nd Amendment does not mean you should be able to carry a firearm everywhere you go” says Karen Josephson at the Corvallis open carry ban hearing. She goes on to say “My worry is that the civility which i have experience my whole life everywhere i go. Yes there are these horror stories of murders that happen, but those are so rare compared to the huge number of people who behave well everyday. So the civility of the city can deteriorate very rapidly in increments, and this kind of an allowance of open carry would make a huge leap in the drop in civility.” What she doesn’t realize is that this isn’t an ordinance to “allow” for open carry, it’s an ordinance to ban it. Open carry already exists. If the civility hasn’t declined, then what is the problem? “If they have a gun on their body, you’re not sure if you can even say that to them. So it puts intimidation into the equation, it’s meant to be intimidating. Why would people want to go around intimidating others? To me that means that means that there’s something going on with them” she also says. Ms. Josephson is also active in other area leftist groups, such 350 climate group and Move To Amend. “I like what the folks have said before about freedom, the other side of that being responsibility. You have a certain amount of freedom to have guns, but you are responsible that you don’t infringe on other people’s ability to speak with you if you’re doing something incorrect in public”…”It’s ironic that we’re in this wonderful theater, where lots of fun and happiness has happened, and we’re talking about something that’s going to decrease our civility.

“The presence of a gun on the hip makes killing easy” says Peter Stoel at the Corvallis city council hearing on the proposed open carry ban. “I do feel that the presence of people waling around open carrying, creates a less civil atmosphere in our city. I don’t see the need for it, i understand they may want to do it. It’s a bit over the top in a civil society”… “Guns, especially pistols, make killing easy, efficient, somewhat impersonal, thereby increasing the lethality of arguments, anger, and fights. This anger turns violent.”

  1. Ah, yes, the leftists belief that “feelings” trump legal and natural rights. These pathetic excuses for citizens will be the first to start squealing for someone to protect them when TSHTF .

  2. When a piece of crap like that bimbo gets robbed, sexually assaulted, or murdered, the first thing that goes through my mind is: “So, how ‘safe’ do you feel in your ‘gun free zone’ now?”
