Energy Quote of the Day: ‘Lower Oil Prices will Make it More Difficult to Achieve Climate-Change Goals’

135th Meeting Of The Organisation Of Petroleum Countries (OPEC) ConferenceThe Energy Collective

The Saudis have stated that their goal in maintaining current oil output and export volumes has been to protect market share against foreign rivals.

The Saudi’s rivals are not limited to other oil producers though, they are also striving to undermine clean energy technologies and climate change policies.

“Lower oil prices are going to make it more difficult to achieve climate-change goals,” said Alan Krupnick, co-director of the Center for Energy and Climate Economics at Resources for the Future, a nonprofit Washington research organization.

“In the short term, people will drive more. In the longer term, it can affect investment decisions,” Krupnick said. Some drivers and car-fleet managers will think twice about paying for zero-emission vehicles “because the cost savings will be lower.” – As reported by the Washington Post

  1. I doubt it. It’s actually a perfect time to throw down a carbon tax while gas is cheap. Bury it in abug bill for fixing the roads so nobody sees it until it’s to late…House pass, Senate pass, Obamer pass. The frontmen pat each other on the back, their masters make more money, We the People get fleeced and sheepleservants will scratch their heads and wonder what the fukk just happened.

  2. I do remember when Bush told the mid east oil producers. If oil goes to high America can go to wind and solar. That was started and died when Fracking came. And with high priced oil we could produce our own and sell our own for a profet. Now that we have made the investment in that the midle east has desided to lower there oil prices were it is cost prohibitive for us to sell our oil. True they make less on there’s. Were I see this going is investment im N.G. ports on the east coast. Now how nuch N.G. does the middle esthave they can bring in to sell there?? And Rusian gas has high shipping cost to Europe. So the world market and who is on the board of derectors. Unlike America. They are smart enough to do what is best for there Countries. And tell the reast to go F themselfs.
