Federal Law Proposed To Override States From Passing GMO Label Laws

Notwithstanding the best efforts of the Biotech Industry to stop GMO labeling at the state level, the GMO label movement in support of the peoples’ right to know what is in our food is rapidly growing across the country.  Monsanto and company have to date, successfully expended millions of dollars to fight against GMO labeling on a state by state basis.  However, even a blind man can see that the “tide has changed” and GMO labeling is virtually inevitable.

In that the Biotech Industry holds on to profits like a mother to her newborn, they have now brought out their proverbial ace up their sleeve.  U.S. republican congressman Mike Pompeo from the great state of Kansas, has just introduced legislation that seeks to effectively preclude states from passing a GMO label law.  Ironically, he has dubbed his legislation “The Safe And Accurate Food Labeling Act Of 2014,” which would give sole authority to the FDA to enact a GMO label law if foods with genetically modified ingredients “… are ever found to be unsafe… .”

According to Pompeo’s press release, “GMO’s are safe and have a number of important benefits for people and our planet.  GMO crops use less water and fewer pesticides and reduce the price of crops by 15 – 30 percent. ”  The press release continues to state that, “Contrary to claims by activists, there is no scientific evidence that suggests foods that contain GMO’s are anything but safe.”

Congressmen are elected by the people and are suppose to represent their best interests.  One can’t help but question the true agenda behind the proposed legislation, which appears to be more representative of big business than the people.  Whether you believe GMO’s are safe or unsafe, we the people should have the basic right to know what is in the food we eat.

  1. “Monsanto and company have to date, successfully expended millions of dollars to fight against GMO labeling on a state by state basis. However, even a blind man can see that the “tide has changed” and GMO labeling is virtually inevitable.”

But…but….Senior Vice President Mary Ellen Burris from Wegmans, assures us that science shows that GMO’s are safe. 😯 (sarcasm)

“First, in arriving at our position, we put our trust in science…….we cannot ignore the large body of science that says GMOs are safe.”

  2. Federal Law Proposed To Override States From Passing GMO Label Laws….

    SCREW THEM…shove your proposal.

    .

  3. The only possible reason for wanting this law passed is so you can be forced to eat poison without knowing it.

What other purpose could this law serve? What other reason for it? And why the reluctance to tell people what they’re eating?

Obviously, you can trust labels anymore either.

  4. “One can’t help but question the true agenda behind the proposed legislation, which appears to be more representative of big business than the people.”

One need not question the true agenda if one is well-informed as to the nature of their ultimate goal.

    Massive depopulation.

  5. Well, shoot…France, Russia, other EU countries and now China have banned GMO products (and Mexico—good for them!–has banned GMO corn, as corn is the staple of Mexican food)…Monsatan has to sell their poisons somewhere and by golly our criminal psychopathic elites will just have to make sure it’s right here in the good ol’ US of A!

So then what we have to do is BOYCOTT all (or as many as we can) products with high-fructose corn syrup, other GMOs like soy protein, and many wheat products unless GMO free verified and that can be checked out online (as to companies that do not use GMOs, like Garden of Eatin’ corn chips…their Red Hot Blues are awesome!)…and grow our own veggies, raise chickens, etc.

Non-GMOs are more expensive, but would you rather pay more for food or pay through the nose for hospital care and cancer treatments?

  6. as a European i dont understand this.

    who cares? seriously.
the first company to label it’s food as “GM free” or “NO GM Ingredients” is going to cleanup.

it’s a selling point, and i’v not seen anything about label laws stopping company’s from saying if they DONT use GM crap in the food.

a label that says the food is GM free will boost sales more than a tv add campaign.
hell, combine the 2 and you will really be poking a hornets nest!
