Ford To Layoff 13,000 Hourly Workers

More bad news for Ford as layoffs will top 13,000 workers according to this Business Journal report.

Ford Motor Co. will temporarily idle F-150 production at its Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, after F-series sales slipped 3 percent in September.

Nationwide, Ford plans to layoff about 13,000 hourly workers. That includes about 9,000 in Kansas City and Louisville, Ky., and about 4,000 at two plants in Mexico.

“During our second quarter financial call, we said we expected the overall retail industry to decline in the second half of the year from the same period last year,” Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker said in an email statement. “We also said to expect to see some production adjustments in the second half — this is one of them. We continue matching production to meet demand.”

United Auto Workers Local 249 said all three shifts at the Kansas City Assembly Plant will be laid off the week of Oct. 24. One crew also will be laid off the week of Oct. 31. The union also said Ford informed members of the possibility of laying off some temporary part-time workers in the plant for a longer period of time.

  1. The people they need to lay off are the suits, NOT the hard working American men and women that actually work and make this country!
I’m sure the suits will still get their big paychecks and bonuses for doing nothing.

    1. Not hard to argue with , but I’m gonna go one step further

It’s time to “lay off” this enemy force occupying our seats of government

These companies wouldn’t be going anywhere if this country’s government would get out of telling them how to run their businesses
And than on top of that , regulate the living F out of them
Oh and than land “OloserCare” care on them too while we’re at it
And add in un fair trade practices that are only beniftting the EFIO’s pockets , not the people of this country
I could continue, to some the picture is clear

  2. They ran out of space to put all the new cars no one’s buying.

Search (don’t Google) for: “Channel stuffing” and you’ll see the photos of brand new cars filling airstrips, race tracks, empty lots, and anywhere else they can stick ’em.

All they have to do is assign the vehicle to a dealer, and they consider it “sold” on their books, which looks good to the accountants, but no one’s actually buying the things because no one has any goddamn money.

  3. Too many of us have been burned by your 6.0L, 6.4L Navestar engines as well as your 6.7L Ford diesel engine.

Its an excersize on how a car company can mess up a technology that was simple and reliable and been around since 1898. Those of us who took a financial bath on account of those POS engines told lots of our friends and family and word has spread. Ford prices are also an outrage. They priced themselves out of a business.

Plus there is this “FORD FOUNDATION” thingy! We found out what it is and what it has been doing and we are telling our friends not to buy ANY Ford vehicle, and are buying other vehicles now.

    1. not to mention the mini van death trap they wont talk about

rear axle cracks in half, and front engine drive train cradle rusts out from under the vehicle and can come apart at speed and leave you with out any control of direction or stopping

have friend of mine who had this happen , coulda killed him and his family

ford denied the problem , dealer denied ever seeing the vehicle in for service ..
he wrote a letter and ford ignored him
100,000 mile vehicle , Junk and a killer out there on our roads

I wouldnt buy a Ford if they were the last car on earth .. ugly, slow , and denial of many problems
hell the 02 to 07 years the fuel tanks fell out from under their pick up trucks .. didnt do a dam thing about it and screwed the owners of those POS Fords

and that whole lie of them not taking tax payer dollars to keep from folding is also not entirely true either

I dont even like being a passenger in a Ford
