Fars News Agency

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran with roughly one percent of the world population owns more than 7 percent of the total global mineral reserves, a research report said Saturday.

The Iranian Parliament’s Research Center made the announcement in a report on the world’s 20 major economies.

It noted that Iran ranks the 2nd and the 3rd in the world in terms of proven gas and oil reserves, respectively.

Iran ranks the 1st in the world in terms of zinc resources, 2nd in copper resources, 9th in iron mines, 10th in uranium mines and 11th in lead mines, the report added.

Iran is one of the most important mineral producers in the world. There are 68 different types of minerals in Iran.

The most important mines in Iran include zinc, copper, iron, uranium and lead. Other mines include coal, chemical minerals, salt, sand and gravel.

Another country that is also very mineral rich is the one at the top of the post 9/11 invasion list – Afghanistan. They’ve been strip mining it ever since.

Personally though, I believe their top priority was restoring opium production to pre-Taliban levels, as it was down to almost nil under that regime. Afghanistan is once again the # 1 opium producer in the world.

One can only hope that the war in the Middle East elicits the same results for the U.S. and Israhell that the (so-called) war on drugs has garnered here
