Michigan law requires doctors to have a private conversation with minors, parents banned

This is B/S!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will soon become a national law, we’ve already see it happening in numerous states (MA) etc.

If one state can get away with it every other state will follow!

Where I Am

I. Am. The. Mom.

Let’s get one thing straight: no doctor or nurse is going to sequester my children in an exam room and talk to them privately. Period. This public service announcement made necessary because of this sign, posted at the check-in counter of my doctor’s office:

I was there last week for an appointment for Amy. She hurt her foot, which makes dancing difficult, so we had to get that checked out. Amy is 17; I asked if this policy was in effect and if so, how could I opt out. The receptionist told me it’s a new law and there is no opting out. Working to keep my cool, I said, “I’m sure there is.” She said, “No, there isn’t.” At which point I asked if I needed to leave and go to the urgent care center because I was not submitting my daughter to such a conversation.

That did not go over well

The receptionist closed the window. Almost immediately, the office manager turned the corner and said, “Mrs. Duffy, may I speak with you?”

She said there was a new policy that would allow a child to access his/her medical records online and the child would be allowed to block a parent from viewing the website. The nurse would also inform my children that the doctor’s office is a safe place for them to receive information about STDs, HIV and birth control. That is what the nurse would be chatting about with my children without any pesky parental oversight.

I kindly informed her that no one would be talking with my children privately, and I needed to know how to opt out of this policy before bringing Amy back for her physical next month. (Yay for physicals! Amy is so excited.)

By this time, the doctor was ready to see Amy so I had to cut the conversation short because I was not letting my girl out of my eyesight or earshot. Not when it was clear that these people were angling to undermine my parental authority.

Does that sound a bit dramatic to you? It shouldn’t. Because that is exactly what they are trying to do.

Make sure this is crystal clear: what they want to do is talk to your child about sex and drugs (maybe rock and roll – who knows?) without your input. Is it really such a stretch to imagine that a doctor who does not value abstinence before marriage would encourage your daughters – as young as 12! – to receive birth control? Is it really such a stretch to imagine a nurse telling a young boy – because a 12 year old boy is a BOY – that she will give him condoms so he can be “safe”? Is this what you want told to your children without the ability to filter the info through your world view?

Should a doctor ever ask to speak to a child without a parent present? If he/she suspects abuse then of course. But short of evidence of abuse, a doctor should not need to speak to a child alone.

I am the Mom. I will pick who can talk to my kids about sex and drugs. And rock-n-roll for that matter.

Regardless what health care provider you choose, please know that no one has the right to remove you from your child’s exam room. Perhaps if more of us stood up for our rights as parents, this ludicrous undermining of parental authority might end.

  1. The entire medical community is now a police department, and they were never very good at healing anyone in the first place.

Why they feel a need to talk to all kids without their parents present can only be criminal, and it’s another push toward convincing people that their kids belong to Obama and his gang of homo friends in government.

  2. I don’t trust what most doctor’s say to me!! You think I would want them talking to my grandkids for 5 seconds alone??? This is total BS!!

  3. I would be irate about this too! It’s bad enough that we cannot refuse (opt out of) vaccinations. If this Doctor’s office has nothing to hide, then of course the parent should be able to be present during the 5-minutes of questions.

Furthermore, the Doctor’s office should realize that most kids will tell their parents what questions the nurse asked them… but if parents yield to this Law without voicing objection, then it would be the same as giving your consent.

I wonder if one of the questions might be: “Does your family own any guns?”

  4. my kid got the ”

“I dont answer questions” ..when it comes to the cops

they will just get the same lesson now when it comes to doctors , nurses, or any medical staff in any setting

  5. “Yay for physicals! Amy is so excited.”

The insane sheeple will do almost anything – unneeded “well child” visits to the local indoctrinated physician, unnecessary physicals (do I get to take off my clothes for a stranger?), vaccines, and on and on. This mother did finally put her foot down, but she really needed to start doing that years before. And yes, you can opt out of vaccinations.

  6. My Fellow Americans:

    Nurse:

“We just need 5 minutes to talk to your kid,…. PRIVATELY,.. meaning you can NOT be in the room,…

    Any questions?

    ME:

Oh no,.. no questions,… just my foot answering your questions for the next 5 minutes by kicking your ass!

    Any questions?

    No?,… good,.. I didn’t think so.

JD – US Marines – ANY parent that consents this,.. IS an unfit parent, a loser extrraordinaire, a true commie,…. or just a plain moron.

    1. Nurse:

We’re reporting you to Child Protective services and are taking your child in custody until you pass a parenting class that teaches you that doctors can do anything they want with your child without your consent. If you don’t allow us to do this, we will have security call the police who will place you under arrest.

      Then what do you do?

      Declare WAR!

    2. ‘ ANY parent that consents this,.. IS an unfit parent, a loser extrraordinaire, a true commie,…. or just a plain moron.’ ………. or all four!

  7. If your child trusts you, she’ll gladly share what the doctor or nurse said afterward. If she doesn’t, you’ve failed as a parent already.

    1. Why should your child trust you if you would allow any mother f-ker to take her away from you, even for a second?
If the doctors want to go along with this communism, maybe it’s time to start paying them private visits.

    2. Stripey7, I found your comment astounding, in the sense that you’d actually allow your child to be exposed to whatever they’d choose to expose her to. And that runs the gamut, all the way from intrusive questioning to mental or physical abuse. Worse, it also can steer the child to become a spy, in other words, turning her against those who love her. Barring the parent sends the message that this parent cannot be trusted. So sick, and more of the on-going attack on the family where the state is valued over the parents.

And this article is from six years ago; it’s gotten SO MUCH WORSE. Now she might get lessons in every sexual oddity in the books. Or she may be persuaded to believe she isn’t really a girl. Or she may be given hormones and have breast-removal surgery suggested to her. God, hard to believe some still don’t know what’s out there preying on the young and inexperienced?!! They are going after our kids with a vengeance.

Your name… I’m reading much into it. At least the first 5 letters: STRIP.
Strip for the stranger in the lab coat?
Strip away the parent/child bond of trust?
Strip away the courtesy and respect all institutions used to show to people?
Yeah, I remember decades back, where courtesy was the norm, and where in caring for children, NO ONE overrode the parents’ authority. If we keep allowing this intrusion, soon they will take them at birth. May sound extreme, but I put nothing past them.

      .

  8. Why take your child to a whitecoat ? If you must you had better not have him out of your sight for an instant.
