NAACP And DOJ To Pursue Federal Charges Against George Zimmerman

Investment Watchblog

The NAACP said late Saturday that it was “outraged and heartbroken” over the not-guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial, vowing to pursue “civil rights charges” with the Department of Justice.

“We are outraged and heartbroken over today’s verdict,” said Ben Jealous, president and CEO of the NAACP. “We stand with Trayvon’s family and we are called to act. We will pursue civil rights charges with the Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state, and we will not rest until racial profiling in all its forms is outlawed.”

NAACP Seeks DOJ Intervention in Martin Case, Targets ‘Stand Your Ground’ Laws

The nation’s oldest and largest civil rights group responded to the acquittal of George Zimmerman with shock, anguish and a call to action.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is petitioning the United States Department of Justice to seek justice for slain teenager Trayvon Martin by filing civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

In a message posted on the groups’s website and circulated nationally within hours of the announcement of the verdict, NAACP president Ben Jealous declared “We are not done demanding justice for Trayvon Martin.”

As part of the NAACP campaign to get the Justice Department to open a civil rights case against Zimmerman. Jealous urged Americans to sign a petition to Attorney General Eric Holder that reads:

The Department of Justice has closely monitored the State of Florida’s prosecution of the case against George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin murder since it began. Today, with the acquittal of George Zimmerman, it is time for the Department of Justice to act.

The most fundamental of civil rights—the right to life—was violated the night George Zimmerman stalked and then took the life of Trayvon Martin. We ask that the Department of Justice file civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman for this egregious violation.

Please address the travesties of the tragic death of Trayvon Martin by acting today.

Within hours of the online posting of the petition late Saturday evening, thousands of Americans had already signed it. Other civil rights groups echoed the demand, with the Rev. CD Witherspoon of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Baltimore telling reporters: “We will be calling on the federal government to file criminal charges on the basis of civil rights violations. This was done immediately after the Rodney King verdict, and should be done if justice is not rendered by the Florida courts.

  1. When OJ was found ‘Not Guilty’ of murdering his girlfriend, don’t recall any such effort by the NAACP to sic the DOJ on Simpson, why is that?

      1. Maybe because nobody’s civil rights were violated in the OJ case. That was clearly about domestic violence not race

        1. Anytime a black or white person is murdered by a someone of a different color, race is always a factor, even if only in the public’s mind.

Don’t you remember all those ‘Free OJ’ t-shirts that came into vogue back then that were worn by the black community?

  2. Nothing but a big MSM sideshow to distract the populace from Obama’s scandals. That’s all.

  3. I am so confused a lot of money and effort was devoted by the Justice department to get Zimmerman off. The hope was to get a race war going. Now they reverse and want to file charges. No wonder we are confused they can not make up their minds on anything. Is this reverse psychology? LOL

    1. It’s not a reversal. They still got the verdict they wanted. This is simply more mudslinging in an effort to add more fuel to the fire.

      1. A race war and, as a bonus, “gun violence” with this example of how conceal/carry and self defense harms innocent children. More division and manipulation of emotions to foment mistrust of each other. And unexamined judicial misconduct on national TV to train us all that what is outrageous is “normal.” To retrain us as to what civil rights means in this strange, new world.

        Keep calm.

  4. Rise above it and forget those things (i.e. racism) that do not advance you or society in general.

    . . .

  5. I never watched any of that crap, but one part I saw today was interesting. The jury only consisted of SIX people?

Another part of our heritage trashed by the PTB. What’s next, trial juries consisting of only four people or only four out of six needed to convict?
