New York City’s largest police union lashed out against the Legal Aid Society’s new database that catalogues the misdeeds of bad cops.

“Compiling a list of police officers who are alleged to be ‘bad’ based upon newspapers stories, quick-buck lawsuits and baseless complaints does nothing more than soil the reputation of the men and women who do the difficult and dangerous job of keeping this city and its citizens safe,” Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch said in a statement Thursday.

Lynch was responding to the Legal Aid Society’s new Cop Accountability Program, which was first reported Thursday by the Daily News.

Program leaders will collect news articles, lawsuits and city Civilian Complaint Review Board reports about cops accused of wrongdoing that Legal Aid will share with its lawyers and attorneys from outside firms.

More than 2,700 entries have already been uploaded to the database, according to program supervisor Cynthia Conti-Cook.

Lynch called the Cop Accountability Program suspect, claiming that many of the lawsuits collected “are lodged in revenge by criminals seeking to punish an arresting officer.”

The database will be horrifically one-sided, Lynch said.

“Where is the database of the thousands of police interactions each day that save lives, take guns and drugs off the streets, prevent terrorist acts and demonstrate the concern and caring of our officers?” he asked.

“New York City police officers have always supported this City, when will this City support them?”

Legal Aid, which represents those who can’t afford to pay for an attorney, says the database is necessary because the NYPD does a poor job tracking cops accused of misconduct and are repeatedly sued.

  1. Boo-Hoo, The poor little piggies are afraid of tarnishing their image of wallowing in pig shit. When will the city support them? I would say that crappy judges already do that, letting the public beaters and killers walk 99.9 percent of the time. Inject a little accountability and listen to the shrill scream of psychopathic pigs. They sure don’t listen when they are beating a homeless person to death.

  2. The American police have ruined there reputations to the point of mass distrust by the citizen. As such it need wake up. With out citizen suport it can not long last as a police force. Just a turd on in turd wrapper is all the people see in them. Erom the top down. The Govoner down the judges, the cops. With out public respect can not represent Law and Order. They are just the tax payers burden on the street. And as such worthless. So they need stop the squille and quit squating behind the badge. And stand behind the shield. You see that is what a shield is designed for.
