NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Driving across Port Authority bridges and tunnels is about to get more expensive.
The cash toll the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will increase $1 to $13.
The price for E-ZPass users will go from $9.50 to $10.25 during peak commuting hours and from $7.50 to $8.25 during off-peak hours.
Many drivers weren’t happy to hear the news Friday morning.
“My E-ZPass every month is about $440,” one man said. “That’s the commute. It’s not parking, it’s not gas — it’s ridiculous.”
“It’s going to be too much for everybody,” said a cab driver. “We’re just going to suffer.”
The revenue is supposed to be funding maintenance on bridges, roads and tunnels, but AAA has claimed the cash is going toward unrelated real estate projects like the World Trade Center.
In September, an independent audit said the toll hikes were necessary to maintain the Port Authority’s transportation infrastructure and fund capital projects.
AAA filed a lawsuit last year calling the increases “unprecedented and unlawful.”
This latest fare hike goes into effect at 3 a.m. Sunday. For more information, click here.

$13 to drive over a bridge that the taxpayers paid for decades ago and have paid for multiple times since?
The Champlain bridge across the St. Lawrence south of Montreal is as
long, much newer, nicer, better maintained than any bridge in the Tri-State
area and it’s FREE to cross.. What BS, New Yorkers should just leave.
Why people live there at all has always been a mystery to me.
They’re just pissing on New Yorkers and not even doing them the courtesy of calling it rain.
That is right #1. I wonder when the last time it was that Bloomburg or Chris Christy had a insecure night out in the middle of no-where with nowhere to turn too.
The week after NEVER.
The week after Bloominidiot passes out from too much sugar in his soft drink and Christie collapses after eating at the Garden State Buffet. LOL
