Police with machine guns at U.S. airports this holiday weekend

CBS News

WASHINGTON — Security at home will be tighter as millions of Americans head out for the holiday.

Police at Los Angeles International Airport today are armed with automatic weapons. This Thanksgiving week — amid ISIS threats — there will be a larger police presence than usual in New York.

“I think it quite clear what we’re advocating, seriously, is don’t be afraid, be aware. It is part of the new world we live in,” said New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.

A new intelligence bulletin sent to law enforcement around the country warns there could be copy cats looking to replicate the Paris attacks in the U.S.

Former Assistant Director of the FBI, Ron Hosko said of the ISIS strategy, “a large proportion is about fear. Could something happen? Yes. But is there a greater chance of being struck by lightning? Or struck by a car on the way to D.C.? Yes.”

President Obama tried to reassure the public when he made a statement. “What happened in Paris is truly horrific. I understand that people worry that something similar could happen here. I want you to know that we will continue to do everything in our power to defend our nation,” he said.

The strategy to protect the U.S. from terrorists involves studying tactics used in Paris.

Intelligence officials believe the attackers conducted pre-operation surveillance. Police in the U.S. are being advised to be on the lookout for suspicious people conducting surveillance of soft targets.

  1. This whole ‘airport security’ game could have been shut down quite quickly if everyone just stayed home or took alternate transportation where possible for a few weeks following 9/11. If I can’t get somewhere by car I ain’t going.

  2. Police with machine guns at U.S. airports…. just like you’d expect to see in any banana republic.

“Former Assistant Director of the FBI, Ron Hosko said of the ISIS strategy, “a large proportion is about fear.”

It’s funny how the ISIS strategy is identical to the American strategy of scaring people into tolerating this tyrannical crap with phantom “terrorists” (and U.S, funded terrorists).

““I think it quite clear what we’re advocating, seriously, is don’t be afraid, be aware. It is part of the new world we live in,” said New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.”

What you’re encouraging (“advocating” is a bad usage) is fear, particularly fear of “our government”, and it’s “a part of the world we live in” because there’s been a lot of time and effort into creating that world.

    1. “… just like you’d expect to see in any banana republic.”

      That’s the plan.

Turn us into another third world country.

  3. Why do the pigs need an auto setting on their weapons? So they can spray ammo in a crowded airport? Those idiots have been watching too many action movies.

For a couple of decades now, even the US military has been teaching its soldiers to stick with semi-auto fire from rifles, leaving the full-auto to the belt-fed weapons. Semi-auto fire has been shown to be more effective in the hands of anyone who knows how to shoot.

Domestic police have NO legitimate reason to have auto weapons. The TWAT pigs and some others sometimes have them because they think it’s “cool” and want to play “commando.” Once again, they show themselves to be grown men with the minds of little boys.

  4. Here is how stupid this is

Bombs trump guns , yes even fully automatic ones

    Nice touch though … Idiots

  5. “I think it quite clear what we’re advocating, seriously, is don’t be afraid, be aware.”

    F’N MORON!!!

It’s BECAUSE people are becoming increasingly aware that they’re afraid.

Wait until their anger overrides the fear. Then all the automatic weapons in the world won’t save your commie @sses!
