A record 93,626,000 people were not participating in the workforce in June, according to new figures released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The BLS defines people outside the labor force as those ages 16 and older who are neither employed nor have “made specific efforts to find employment sometime during the 4-week period ending with the reference week.”

The labor force participation rate also decreased 0.3 percent from last month to 62.6 percent.

The country has not seen a labor force participation rate that low since October 1977 when the participation rate was 62.4 percent.

The BLS reports that the civilian labor force also shrank by 432,000 in June, from 157,469,000 in May to 157,037,000 in June.

While people dropped out of the workforce the BLS highlighted that the unemployment rate declined to 5.3 percent and payroll jobs increased by 223,000.

  1. ” A record 93,626,000 people were not participating in the workforce in June ”

” were not participating ” ? This should read: ” Have no opportunity for employment due to offshore outsourcing and robotic manufacturing “.

    1. FED unemployment figures reflect ONLY those currently collecting unemployment benefits, NOT the rest of us who’ve fallen ” off the map “. I lost my IT career in 2001 with the ” dot com bomb “, and haven’t worked since. I’m currently exhausting my inheritance keeping myself and my 82 year old mother going . . .

    2. Using census numbers from 2009, there are 306,816,000 people in the U.S. who are age 18 to 65 (we all know that number is larger now). Those are people that are eligible for full time employment. According to this article, there are 157,037,000 currently working….

      306,816,000
      -157,037,000
      ——————-
      149,779,000
      – 5.3% <–(Their unemployed number)
      ——————-
142,290,050 <—-They expect us to believe then, that this number represents college students, stay at home parents, early retirees and I guess welfare recipients.

  2. Why don’t they just say 150 million and get it over with? They keep trying to prevent it from going over 100 million. Just say the truth, for cryin’ out loud. We got sheeple supporting bestiality, pedaphilia and gay marriages. Do you really think reporting that 100 or 150 million unemployed in this country is going to do anything anymore?

If something were to happen, it would of happened already. Just report the truth. It makes no difference at this point. The people who know the truth already know and the people who don’t know the truth will never know.

  3. So if you made 5,000,000.00 jobs a year it would take 19 years just to get these people work!
Last I looked the best year was 1 1/2 mil. Jobs made and that was not keep up with people just entering the work force.
So we are looking at 100+ years to get people work!
And they are telling us how great things are?
