Schools closed in ambush suspect search area

A northeastern Pennsylvania school district closed its schools Tuesday after at least two reported sightings of the suspect in a deadly state police ambush.

Officials in the Pocono Mountain School District announced the decision to cancel classes shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday. In the latest possible sighting, an officer with Pocono Mountain Regional Police reported seeing a man dressed in green in a wooded area near the Swiftwater Post Office around 2 p.m. Monday, leading to an intensive police search but no capture.

“He lost visual contact with the man through the woods. A search of the area was conducted but no one was located,” Trooper Tom Kelly said Tuesday morning. The post office is less than a half-mile from a Pocono Mountain School District’s Swiftwater campus, which includes a high school, junior high and elementary school.

The possible sighting came three days after a woman said she saw a rifle-toting man with a mud-covered face near Pocono Mountain East High School. District officials had said Monday night that schools would be open Tuesday, with students remaining indoors and athletic practices moved off site. It wasn’t immediately clear what changed their minds, but Superintendent Elizabeth Robison has said the district is in close contact with state police.

A statement posted on the district’s website Monday night, and since taken down, said Robison spoke to a state police official who “expressed his commitment to student safety and assured her that he will notify her immediately if he ever has a safety concern for any of our schools or campuses.”

Kelly said Tuesday that classes were canceled “as a result of the police activity in the area of the school.” Frein, 31, is charged with opening fire outside the Blooming Grove state police barracks on Sept. 12, killing a trooper and seriously wounding another.

Authorities had been searching for him in the woods around his parents’ home in Canadensis but shifted their primary search area 5 or 6 miles to the southwest after Friday night’s sighting. The school district had opened with heightened security Monday, stationing additional police officers at the Swiftwater campus. As police ramped up their search efforts nearby in response to Monday’s possible sighting, district officials moved outdoor after-school athletic practices to another campus.

  1. “Authorities had been searching for him in the woods around his parents’ home in Canadensis but shifted their primary search area 5 or 6 miles to the southwest after Friday night’s sighting.”

And this soap opera continues. It’s becoming more like hunting Big Foot.

Question: If Frein is an excellent marksman, a cop killer with a grudge, and has a pending life sentence if he is caught, then what will he have left to lose if he keeps killing more cops? Since more cops haven’t been killed, then is it fair to say that he is long-gone from the Pennsylvania area? I grew up in the Allegheny Mountains in west-central New Jersey (Delaware Valley), and there are still thousands of acres of virgin forests surrounding the junction point of NJ/PA/NY. Frein could be almost anywhere… especially if his friends are helping him.

  2. This whole farce is getting rediculous. Why would this guy be a threat to school children, for crying out loud. Agree with Introspect. This guy has had multiple opportunities to off more cops if he wanted to. I doubt this guy even exists.

    1. “This guy has had multiple opportunities to off more cops if he wanted to. I doubt this guy even exists.”

I was going to say this but someone posted a while ago that they had a kid that went to school with him in that area of Pennsylvania.
But there was also another poster who showed him in a Russian Military uniform. I haven’t searched for either of these articles yet in the FTTWR archives. I’m kind of surprised that we haven’t seen his parents on television pleading for their son’s safe capture or for Eric to turn his self in. Just seems somewhat peculiar under the circumstances.

  3. Inretrospect has a great point. 🙂

With all the opportunities the police goons have given this guy to kill more of them and get clean away with it why hasn’t he? Either this whole thing is a WAG the DOG theatrical performance or a drill, or he did NOT shoot anyone, doesn’t intend to shoot anyone, and is trying to stay alive. If the latter is the case then that would beg another question.

Who really shot those State Police Ocifers?
    also –>

Why are we so afraid of these well equipped goon squads who couldn’t find their buttocks with both hands in a closet with 21st century high technology devices and air assets? The only thing they seem to be successful at accomplishing is pissing off the population and showing EVERYONE what incompetent BOOBIES they really are.

I’m LAUGHING AT THE NEW WORLD ORDER MINIONS. They are only as dangerous as the morons working for them.

I laughed my ass off with that question, VRC.

“The only thing they seem to be successful at accomplishing is pissing off the population and showing EVERYONE what incompetent BOOBIES they really are.’

I’ve said it before: We are dealing with law enforcement agencies who are “just following orders” and fighting against people who either “have nothing to lose” or, “won’t be taken alive”.

I’d say that the odds are on our side at this juncture. I also have been left with the same question you have: Did Frein really shoot those State Police Officers or, was he framed?
