Two men make up a battleteam and they will never be far from each other. This is very important on a battlefield. First is the morale factor. A person is much more likely to panic if he is alone. He will feel cut off, in extreme danger and about to die. If someone else is nearby it provides a great deal of support because, if the individual is injured or lost, there is someone to help him or go for help. Other factors come into play also. If someone else is present the individual will attempt to mask his fear and in this way, more easily over come it. (This is one reason military forces do not readily acknowledge a soldier’s fear and encourage the ‘fearless’ attitude). Another factor is that in ‘tight’ units that the two (or more) are looking out for and relying on each other. When someone knows that someone else is doing their best to protect him from harm it has a very calming affect.
The battleteam is the smallest ‘unit’ employed for these reasons. When a squad leader does a recon of an area he takes someone with him as ‘backup’. Sniper teams usually operate in two man teams, very rarely do they operate alone.
There are exceptions to the ‘battleteam rule’. If a squad uses flank security than a single man will be put out on either side. However, the flank security people will not be too far from the rest of the squad if they run into trouble.
Firefight
When the firing starts a battleteam should work together very closely. A pair of professionals will continuously be talking to each other. They will inform each other when and where they see the enemy, what kind of weapon the enemy has (especially if it is a machine gun). They will also tell each other when they are reloading or running low on ammo. Whenever a grenade is thrown a warning will be yelled so friendly forces can take cover. Pro’s will use special code words to prevent the enemy from understanding them. Words like ‘fire in the hole’ let friendlies know a grenade or other explosive has been loosed and is getting ready to explode. The word ‘grenade’ is very similar in many languages and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out.
A good team will also talk about their own status, especially if one is running low on ammo and/or needs to reload. This way the other person knows to conserve ammunition and keep the enemy from rushing his partner who is vulnerable. A magazine can be dropped from the weapon and abandoned but usually they are recovered for reuse. Also, if there are a few rounds still in the magazine they can be recovered if worst comes to worst.
A pair of pros working together is also more effective than an individual because while one is moving to a better position the other is forcing the enemy to keep his head down or fire less accurately. This is called different things, leapfrogging, fire and movement or fire and maneuver, depending on the ‘school’. Regardless of what it is called, the basics are the same.
Movement by a battleteam is like it is for an individual. Everyone moves from cover to cover and keeps the distance short. Many infantrymen are taught to use the phrase “I’m up, he see’s me, I’m down” in order to keep distances short. By the time the trooper has recited it, he has gotten up, moved a few meters and taken cover, fast and furious.
Two troopers working together also increase the chance of locating the enemy. Four eyes are always better than two.
On Patrol
On patrol a battleteam is also important. While one man is drinking water, relieving himself, eating or whatever, the other man is covering him. This allows the person to take care of business as quickly and quietly as possible without having to worry about the enemy catching him by surprise.
Two pros working together are also less likely to be surprised because they have different areas to watch for enemy activity. Amateurs might have their attention drawn to a stream or animal or something and everyone might be looking at it when the shooting starts. Regardless of other distractions, pros will try to concentrate on their area of responsibility.
Silent Sentry Take out
Everyone has seen a movie where the good guys sneak up and cut the throat of the bad guy with a knife. This is one of the more difficult methods. Silenced weapons are preferred, bows or crossbows are secondary, knives are used when nothing else is available (like in most infantry units). A garrote can be used also.
Whenever a sentry is designated for ‘removal’ usually a pair of troopers is assigned the job of removing one or more sentries. One man employs the weapon (usually a knife) and the other man remains ready with his assault rifle (or machine gun) in case things go wrong.
More than two people can be used in a sentry removal team but silent sentry removal will be detailed in another section.
Defense
In the defense a two men are usually stationed together. While one man is digging the hole, the other man is watching for the enemy. While one man is sleeping, the other is watching for the enemy (this is called fifty-fifty, fifty percent asleep, fifty percent awake). When one man is placing booby traps or barbed wire, the other is covering him.
When the fight begins the two remain stationary in their holes and if one is injured he has another person present to help him and/or get help.

Excellent article. This is my biggest concern. I’m not a veteran or a soldier, I’m just a gun owner. I’ve never had any combat training. I can shoot but I would hardly call myself a marksman. What I will do is fight. I can guarantee that. But what good is that if I’m mowed down in a heartbeat. I would hope to make more of an impression than that. I’m more into electronics and radio communication but not in the military sense. It was a hobby of mine when I was a kid and I’m trying to get back into it but time has it’s restraints.
If I’m not mistaken, I think Liberty Tree Radio has a you-tube channel where you can find training videos there that will give you some basic combat instructions.
I’m in the same boat as you, Eomer. I got my military training from Hollywood, and I doubt it will keep me alive very long. We have some studying to do.
Were I the FBI or SPLC, I’d be setting up a website to attract and identify those that might actually put up a fight at some point. Grab some of the people while they are just discussing vague plans, and leak the posts to the media to “prove” that “home grown terrorism” is a real problem. Of course everything would be out of context, overblown, and sensationalized, but the media would get its story and gov would get the opportunity to further demonize gun owners as the problem rather than the solution.
With the correct distortion, many posts can be made to look incriminating. Think of it as misleading theatre and trickery, but with serious consequences.
Beating one’s chest and screaming “come and get me” in public forums when one is angry with specific asshat politicians feels good but may practically amount to little more than a convoluted form of suicide.

However, There is still the First Amendment.
Law abiding citizens talking about defence vs what is called Liberals/Democrats ACTUALLY talking/suggesting/calling for killing of law abiding citizens. It was the Dems that threatened to riot if their savior and cult leader wouldn’t be (re)elected.
And some vage Dem is already suggesting to drop the term limits for President.
So in short, there is a risk, but what is the alternative? Go silently in the night behind the barn, to receive the Communist blessing of a Neck Shot, the way they have always solved opposition to their mass message and blessings over the ages?
You say “Grab some of the people while they are just discussing vague plans” I have not seen any plans yet, that wouldn’t be trained in militia form in one way or another anyway for any enemy be it foreign invaders or domestic 5th column. It is not that battle or ways to wage battle have to be invented, or that the vets have lost their knowledge of how the opposition is prepared to fight a war, and they with that knowledge can surprise them with out of the box plans.
Seeing short term history, the FBI/or CIA doesn’t need genuine patriots. They find idiots enough, they can supply with whatever is need to set them on a path, that will lead to their arrest for whatever crime was needed followed by public vilification by the controlled media or Propaganda/Hypnotic/Psyop arm of the Government.
Looking around on the web, you might see, that the FBI is a little crowded at the moment.. Not only lots of gun buyers voting against the government plans with their wallets, that need background checks for the weapons the Jewels of the Earth want to outlaw within a very short time, but also a lot of Americans giving their opinion in public places, to others that haven’t considered the options as of yet, but now when reading, and pondering said opinions have to make up their own mind.
You show me an real American, that has somewhere in his/her past volunteered to swear a holy oath to protect the Constitution.
I show you a guy or gal , that they will have to neutralize… To get their Socialist welfare state. However, keep in mind that the promise of that welfare state might just be to get a mass of followers that will volunteer to be cannon fodder. For their real plans. Pawns are Pawns.
My best bet at this moment, with the information gathered over 10 years, is that the real owners of The United States, 100 years after the bankruptcy, and instalment of the FED reserve, to milk this country empty for numerous generations and without a real hope of ever paying the honour loans to others off, finally want the squatters on their land neutralized, disarmed and ready for the slaughter, to have a pristine sustainable continent for them. You mileage may vary.
Now the question is, Even if there is the risk that the FBI and SLPC do exactly what you suggest they might do, Wouldn’t that fact EXACTLY justify the reason to weapon up, and be able to defend, since it makes them the bad guys?
the SPLC or southern poverty lying center is not part of the us govt so who cares what they think or say to discredit any dissent? they along with the ADL are zionist arms of israel inside America.

Joe there needs to be a point where you draw a line in the sand. While I agree that the FBI uses techniques for baiting people, there is nothing wrong with me saying I will fight and defend myself when push comes to shove. Not everyone wants to dig a hole and hide.

The internet is one of the last avenues in which we can use the freedom of speech to communicate with one another and discuss various issues that we feel strongly about. That is exactly the reason why the US and the UN want to get their hands on it and shut us up. We have to set certain terms and conditions otherwise we are simply giving up. I’ve already accepted the fact that being on this site, commenting and also being on other sites may have already placed my name on some list. I’ve reached a point where I am simply disgusted with what has happened to this country in my lifetime let alone well beyond it. I completely understand your reasoning as it is based on the logic of survival, yet I feel there needs to be a bigger picture beyond us just surviving. I want to survive in a world where the individuals have the upper hand and don’t have to hide in fear. Maybe you see it as “beating my chest” and trying to look like a tough guy but I’ll tell right now that is not my persona. I simply feel it is time we stand our ground and say enough is enough.
By the way, I wanted to say thanks to Paraclete for posting these types of articles. A little while back I requested more info like this in a comment. Whether that had anything to do with it or not doesn’t matter, I’m glad to see them.
