Texas DPS Begins Surge Near Falfurrias to Battle Drugs and Human Smuggling

Breitbart – by Bob Price

FALFURRIAS, Texas—Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are beginning a law enforcement surge operation around Falfurrias in Brooks County. The operation is being executed to deter human smuggling and drug trafficking along the two major highways leading to the Border Patrol’s Falfurrias Checkpoint.

Troopers were seen in much larger than normal numbers working the highways around Brooks County last week. A trooper recently told this writer a surge operation was about to begin in Brooks County to try and deter the human smugglers from dropping off their cargo. It is not known at this time, how many troopers will be involved in this surge, nor how long the surge operation will continue. Officials of the DPS were unable to confirm any of this information at this time.

The additional troopers are a great relief to local law enforcement officials. Because of costs associated with burying the dead bodies found in Brooks County, the sheriff’s office has been forced to reduce its staff to only one about deputy per shift. They must provide law enforcement services to residents living in nearly 1,000 square miles of mostly open ranch-land.

Brooks County has been relying on volunteer police officers from the Rio Grande Valley who have been driving at their own expense to work as non-paid deputies. Donna Independent School District Police Chief Daniel Walden founded a group known as the Border Brotherhood of Texas, a group of certified police officers, to organize these volunteers who bear much of the cost of this operation out of their own pockets. “We are glad to see these troopers,” said Walden, “but we don’t know how long they will be here. We must continue to build our reserve program to help provide law enforcement resources to Brooks County over the long-term.”

This comes at the same time members of the Texas State Guard and DPS are beginning search and rescue operations in Brooks County to attempt to locate other bodies that may not yet have been found. Officials with Brooks County estimate they fine about one out of five bodies of people who die in the county. Frequently bodies will be reported by illegal immigrants who have been captured but the bodies are not able to be located. This operation by the State Guard will continue for two weeks and then will be repeated from time to time as necessary. Breitbart Texas broke the news of this operation on Friday morning. Later that day DPS officials confirmed the information reported by Breitbart Texas.

In the meantime, the remains of fifty-three illegal immigrants have been found in Brooks County this year and over three hundred have been found since 2011 according to Brooks County Chief Deputy Benny Martinez. A sign at the Border Patrol Checkpoint south of Falfurrias indicates that over 34,000 illegal immigrants have been captured in Brooks County since October 1st, 2013. Brooks County is located nearly 100 miles from the Texas-Mexico border.

  1. the problems these people are fleeing from are only being brought over here. it doesn’t get better, only bigger. what these people are fleeing from is the exact thing they end up doing to the people they’re invading. how does allowing this to happen save our country from financial ruin?
