Texas teen makes violent joke during video game, is jailed for months

The Daily Caller – by Robby Soave

A Texas teenager who has been in jail since March faces an eight-year prison sentence because of a threatening joke he made while playing an online video game.

In February, Justin Carter was playing “League of Legends” — an online, multiplayer fantasy game — when another player wrote a comment calling him insane. Carter’s response, which he now deeply regrets, was intended as joke.

“He replied ‘Oh yeah, I’m real messed up in the head, I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,’ and the next two lines were lol and jk,” said Jack Carter, Justin’s father, in a statement to a local news channel.

The statements “lol” and “jk” — meaning “laughing out loud” and “just kidding” — indicate that Justin’s statement was entirely sarcastic, said his father.

But a Canadian woman who saw the post looked up Carter’s Austin address, determined that it was near an elementary school, and called the police. Carter was arrested one month later, and has been in jail ever since. He recently celebrated his 19th birthday behind bars.

Authorities charged him with making a terrorist threat. If convicted, he will face eight years in prison.

“These people are serious. They really want my son to go away to jail for a sarcastic comment that he made,” said the elder Carter.

Authorities noted that recent school shootings like the one in Newtown, Connecticut have caused them to evaluate all potential threats seriously. Newtown was still fresh in their minds at the time of Carter’s arrest.

“In light of recent situations, statements such as the one Justin made are taken seriously,” said an Austin police detective in a statement.

Carter’s father said his son didn’t follow the news at all.

“Justin was the kind of kid who didn’t read the newspaper,” said Jack Carter. “He didn’t watch television. He wasn’t aware of current events. These kids, they don’t realize what they’re doing. They don’t understand the implications. They don’t understand.”

Carter’s parents have launched a change.org petition to convince Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot to release their son.

“Release Justin Carter from jail,” the petition reads. “Too many teenagers are being arrested, jailed and having their lives forever altered because of anti-terrorism laws and investigations that impede their 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech.”

A hearing to review Carter’s case is scheduled for July 1.

  1. Interesting, this Canadian woman was able to determine his address just from the post in-game?

Does no one see what is wrong here? She would not have been able to have just looked him up as you would a telephone number and unlikely LoL’s gamesmasters are in the habit of handing out players details without a court warrant. Most if not all cases a report to the company running the game would have resulted in a temporary or permanent ban of that account.

So the question is: How did she get his information because a pound to a penny gets you it was ascertained illegally.

Secondly, there has to be a onus on just how realistic the threat is, a convicted armed robber and killer would of course be a very realistic threat, a never before in trouble games player? I think not.

The US govt has for a long, long time been after access to online games, if you dig around some members of the spook gang think that every other person playing World of Warcraft or Everquest II is a dyed in the blood Al Qaeda supporter using these innocent games to talk to each other, it is ridiculous in the extreme as a hardened Muslim wouldn’t play such games as its depiction of “witchcraft” and magic is very much against their hard boiled version of Islam.

    1. And I forgot to add this point as well.

The EU World of Warcraft server where the Norwegian mass killer used to hold court was a real eye opener, there was concern he would be martyrised into a hero by the online community but that never happened and across the server people offered their condolences to those who lost their children and the general feeling about the killer is that of despite than any aggrandisement so sadly for the spooks online games are barren ground for dodgy people and criminals.

      1. Hey there A. Grandparent, now you can condem the Queen and all of those other elite F`ers now that she/they is/are a convicted criminal by the “Second Session of the International Common Law courts” . Don`t forget that, but I guess that they get special privs right?

          1. That is terrible Angel. How do they rate? 🙁 Thanks for the info there Angel 🙂

          2. Speaking of the Queen, I thought the Queen of England had an International arrest warrant out for her a month or two ago. About the same time as the new Pope. How come both of them aren’t in jail yet? Of course, if it were me, I’d have been in jail in no time. Don’t you just love these two sets of laws? In addition to all of that, she gets a pay raise. I wish I could get a pay raise after committing crimes. Of course, I’m not a dark, demonic, murderous bitch like her.

          3. See here is the problem, we have absolutely no say whatsoever here in the UK over the Queen, parliament or anything else, we are no longer ruled by consent but by edict and decree with no public consultation on anything.

The Queen is immune to the law and so are the bankers too, we are not too far behind on the revolution road ourselves as the poor, the sick and the elderly are being torn to pieces by the government whilst awarding HM Queen massive pay rise, massive tax cuts to their millionaire friends, massive pay rises to MP’s but the man in the street if he can’t find a job has to scrounge food from a food bank to survive and faces extreme hardship.

We have a massive deficit but to bridge that deficit, the government is attacking the unemployed but has done little to pursue the corporations for the 200 billions pounds owed in back taxes which would have left this country in a positive, Google, Starbucks, Facebook, Amazon etc and plenty more have avoided paying taxes pretty much since the current government came in, the big American banks too have basically refused to pay as well and so the man in the street is suffering for them as well.

      2. But, but I thought David Cameron was a direct descendent of Moses…lol. Times Online, 10 July 2009

But, but I heard Harrod destroyed all the genealogical records…lol.

Angry Grandparent, you’re so right about UK being such a mess. The seat of Rothschild has had you all by the throats for such a very long time.

        1. People do sometimes forget that when you lot fought for your independence, its oft assumed that us British had some sort of wonderful life over here and treated everyone else like rubbish.

Sad to say the British people were as equally treated like rubbish by their elite masters and so many of us wanted a similar democratic republic back then but the Crown is a powerful entity and I wonder why it is no common mistake either that so many American presidents are related to the Crown however distantly.

          1. So true. One need only consider the dreadful class/caste system in Britain. In the Victorian era there were great fortunes made in the industrial revolution at the height of the British Empire and its riches drawn from abroad, at the same time as abject poverty at home; this was at a time of full employment when most people from six to sixty had some type of job, so the abject poverty had to be because of abject poverty wages. There is no other explanation for it.

    2. What about all these terrorists that are speaking openly on twitter of killing people (some specific to whitepeople or crackers) over the early releases of info from the murder trial for zimmerman…

Have heard of no condemnation from the media nor any criminal investigation.

      Where is the disconnect here?

      1. Cyn,It appears to be a TRUE but TABOO subject to shine the light of day on for discussion and DEFENSE against this racially motivated HURT INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED OUT and threatened with serious bodily harm Because their skin is WHITE,but if a non dark skin brings up racial pride in his ancestors he’s deemed the tired but forever thrown term “racist” These threats must be exposed for no other reason thandefusing this powder keg,let the older black community know what their youth is planning and let our older non dark skin community be aware of the threats being made against them and we just might STOP THIS MADNESS. I take each and every man at face value and will not be labled for believiing in AWARENESS of my surroundings,I have made no threats towards any man black white or tutti frutti and will not be threatened by any other man woman or child their skin pigment is irrelavent but their MOTIVES are not. oh yea I condemm these threats of violence made by BLACK youth against WHITE people.

      2. Those guys you refer to, work for al-cia-duh. thats why they dont get into trouble….they are trolls looking for patsies.

        1. Its interesting to refer back to the Nazi’s and to Goebbels and Heydrich particularly who brought in an edict of “one sacrifice from every family” meaning that every family not in the German upper echelons had to lose on member whether to die on the fronts or to die in a secret court case accused of nonsense crimes against the state, a formidable tool that kept the German people extremely cowed and fearful and incapable of rising up against the state, I wonder if such a policy is beginning to show up in the US as it does seem a lot of innocent people ending up in prison.

          1. The Nazi’s were masters of control.

Their agenda progressed readily with a willing and naive populace than it ever could have with a bit more resilience.

Somewhat better off are we Americans as many of us are not naive and or moronic to past, current & potential future events.

There are still many patriots left. Never give up as you will then be either indentured servants (slaves), placed into FEMA Gulags or dead.

Liberty & freedom were easy & free for an awfully long time after long periods of incredible sacrifice- continued complacency now is surrendering one’s inalienable rights.

          2. Why do people INSIST on using the Nazis as examples of the worst of humanity. That is Ashkenazi so-called ‘jewish’ PROPAGANDA, and plays right into the NWO’s game plan.

If you want an example of total tyranny and mass killings by a ‘government’ (66 million ACTUAL murders), try the Russian Bolshevik so-called ‘jews’.

            A FAR superior example.

  2. If we as as people are to assume that words alone in jest are an act of terrorism, many other people are guilty of the same crimes as the accused.
I for one have said far worse in jest in earlier years. “Let them who is without sin cast the 1st stone.” Who is above being mortal? Especially a teenager uninformed of world events. If this society has come to the point where it’s not safe to speak, we are no different than NAZI Germany.

  3. I don’t know how old all of you are..but growingup in the 70’s and 80’s…not that long ago, if someone said what that kid said in public.. No oone would have cared and the police would have said there is nothing they can do until he attempts to act on it. You see, we had something called the first amendment rights. The proper thing to have done for this kid and his family would have been to resist arrest with deadly force which is legal because they attempt to violate his rights. If we all start protecting ourselves and our neighbors from these criminals we will win back our republic. We may then begin to arrest all of the criminal fake law enforcement and treasonous public officials and prosecute them for high treason, (waging war against the people). This is the only way we get back to a nation of peace and liberty.

    1. Growing up real fast in the 60`s, the croud that I hung out with as well as most people from back then didn`t have video games to waste our time on. We were too busy working and partying and staying out of trouble.

  4. Keepng us safe from ourselves and terrorists one kid at a time. This is where our tax money is going.
I agree…he would be labeled a freedom fighter in Syria. He’s be given weapons and training to commit atrocities too.
