The NYPD Declares Martial Law in Brooklyn

On the heels of three nights of protests over the police slaying of 16 year old Kimani Gray, the NYPD has turned the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn into a State of Exception, claiming emergency powers to suspend the constitutional guarantees of the citizenry.

The people regularly targeted by police harassment and violence, overwhelmingly the city’s poor and minority populations, have taken to the streets to speak out against the NYPD’s draconian tactics. The police have in turn responded with even further harsh measures by suppressing the right of the people to voice dissatisfaction with that very same police force.

Cops kettled protesters at Wednesday night’s candlelight vigil, resulting in 46 arrests. Police even arrested Kimani Gray’s distraught sister, Mahnefeh.

The NYPD euphemistically calls the public spaces in which the Constitutional rights of the people are suspended “frozen zones.”

Allison Kilkenny wrote about the NYPD’s so-called “frozen zones” in December 2011:

“The ‘frozen zone’ is an arbitrary, official police business-sounding title that has absolutely zero legal merit. It’s something the NYPD made up, just as the ‘First Amendment zone’ is something [Los Angeles Mayor Antonio] Villaraigosa made up to suppress media coverage of the Occupy raids.”

According to FIERCE, the “frozen zone” in East Flatbush is being used to prevent media from covering the protests and arrests. Meanwhile, people inside the “frozen zone” can be subjected to arrest merely by exercising their constitutional rights.

“It basically means the area is under temporary martial law,” writes FIERCE. “The last times the NYPD declared a Frozen Zone was on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and during the beginning of OWS.”

An arbitrary dictate that arrests protest and free speech, set forth by the institution that is itself the target of the protests, creates a potentially dangerous precedent of placing the NYPD beyond reproach.

Occupy Austin reposted this poignant summary of events by Jen Roesch as they were unfolding in Brooklyn last night:

“East Flatbush, Brooklyn is under martial law as the NYPD declares it a ‘frozen zone’. Media are being monitored and kept from moving and reporting freely. Dozens of arrests and much brutality. Kimani was shot in the back seven times; a witness is sure he was unarmed; multiple reports are coming out that the police had been waging a campaign of harassment against the young man (including taunting him about a friend who had died in a car accident and threatening to shoot him when he tried to leave). This is just blocks from where Shantel Davis was shot, dragged from her car and left to bleed to death in the street last summer. After that shooting, police went to all the surrounding delis and confiscated their surveillance videos. Residents in the neighborhood live in a state of terror. Heartbreaking, enraging, the stuff that riots are made of. This city is at a breaking point.”

Kimani Gray’s parents are scheduled to hold a press conference this evening to address the March 9 police slaying of their young son.

Sounds a lot like the protests of the 60’s on steroids.Only difference is they used the NG back then and now we have the SS jack boots doing the same job with less restrant. If you want to know how this is going to kick off(shtf) watch what happens in NY.When the people get smart they protest and have the cops come in and then a larger group will come in behind the cops and the party will begin.Good luck NY,be smart and you will win.

Instead of always protesting and all, I think that it is time to take out these dirty cops and poloticians the old fashioned way just like the cops do – with a gun. Very little has ever been accomplish while rioting and this martial law thing is just another example of just that. It is all about control and I think we have all seen how the police and govt like to take care of busines and control things. It is long over due to give them a taste of their own medicine.

To avoid hassles from the cops, they get to use the local shooting range for free. They show up with 8 to 12 guys. Funny thing is they only use one target. They all aim at the same target and then one of them yells, “control, control, control”. They all empty their guns and blow the target to pieces. One said they are trained to always control the situation and that’s how they do it. We talked a bit and he said they learned from a trainer who had been to Israel to learn from the IDF.

Now you know why so many suspects have been shot 40 or 50 times. Now you know why the LAPD fired over 100 bullets into the pickup truck they thought just might be Dorner’s. Instead it was driven by two old ladies. Now you know why they have “no hesitation” targets.

This is how they are trained. Keep it in mind.

LIVE STREAM, EVERYONE! LIVE STREAM! And even if it’s not on video, the infomormation makes the blogs and backfires by showing those worthless so called law enforcement viruses that break the law more than anyone for what garbage they are.

Is anybody else getting the impression that the cops are deliberately trying to spark some kind of ill-advised, violent, race/& or/ civil war that they are already prepared to put down?

I think they will continue to do this with every big city and while the people are busy tackling the police, the UN Military troops will go in and infiltrate the militia leaders, knowing that the people will be too distracted. Be careful everyone. Tactics like these may be a distraction to grab the leaders of the patriot movements and militias. Don’t be fooled by them.

  7. NC says:

You know, with all the police out on the streets in riot gear, it makes you wonder who is manning the police stations. Hint Hint! Just sayin’.

For future patriots in the coming war, remember what Sun Tzu says, in the “Art of War”, attack unguarded spots and weak points. Appear where you are not expected. Learn how to take advantage of distractions and to maneuver around them. You control the enemy. The enemy does not control you.

Everyone should study the “Art of War” if they have not done so already. Other than God himself, that book is probably the one thing that will save a lot of us in battle and help us conquer these foreign insurgents. I strongly recommend it. I actually would order everyone to purchase a copy, study it and study things like the NYC riots and use what you learn in the book and from incidents like these in order to apply it in future battles in order to counter these bastards in the future.
