ALBANY – Thousands of gun owners and Second Amendment rights advocates are expected in Albany on Thursday for a rally sponsored by the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.

Hundreds of people are planning to travel, many by chartered buses, from the counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster.

George Rogero, founder of Orange County Shooters, who will be in Albany, said plans are to meet with area state senators and assembly members in the morning and then rally at the State Capitol at noon.

The throngs will be lobbying and speaking out against the recently passed state SAFE law, which they say stifle the rights of lawful and licensed gun owners. Among the concerns of licensed gun owners is the provision that limits ammunition magazines to only seven rounds.

Opponents of the new law say that not only does it violate their Second Amendment right to bear arms; criminals will not abide by its provisions.
