US to use Jordan as base for potential military intervention in Syrian

The United States is planning to use the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as a base for a potential military intervention in Syria to topple Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and his regime, Western diplomatic sources claimed.

The sources told Rai Alyoum news agency in London that US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford’s remarks about the need to escalate the situation in the southern front in Syria and further comments by the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman; who said the US administration has a “Plan B” in the event the Geneva II talks failed indicate that the Jordanian-Syrian borders will become a major gateway to transfer advanced military equipment to the Syrian armed opposition from the US and Europe.

The sources said that American and European military and security intelligence experts are meeting in Jordan to put together two scenarios in case the talks failed. The first is to allow American and British forces into Syria to fight radical jihadist groups such as Al-Nusra Front or Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant and to prevent them from reaching the border with Israel.

Only members of the Free Syrian Army will be allowed in Daraa and the neighbouring towns. The second scenario is to oversee the arming of opposition groups and help them develop plans to attack the Syrian regime’s bases; ensuring that sophisticated weapons do not reach Jihadist groups.

US President Barack Obama announced he pledged one billion dollars in loan guarantees for Jordan during King Abdullah II visit to Washington.

If the US and its allies decided to go with their scenario; the Syrian southern zone would turn into a base for the Syrian opposition to launch military operations against the regime’s forces. Saudi Arabia agreed to provide rebels with mobile anti- aircraft missiles two days ago.

The US Secretary of State John Kerry held the Syrian regime responsible for the failed peace talks in Geneva which raises speculation that the US will resort to a military option and increase support for the armed opposition to pressure the Syrian regime to accept a transitional government which enjoys full powers.

  1. I get a kick out of what Kerry considers “failed peace talks”. America’s position is “Assad is out and we will put our puppet in as president…take it or leave it”. Of course the Syrian representative walks out. Then Kerry says “okay now we have war”. It’s bull sheit.
