Anti-War Protests Across the Country

In Washington DC:

About 100 anti-war protesters and some 50 supporters of the Syrian opposition faced off outside the White House Saturday as President Barack Obama weighed a strike against the Damascus regime.

Police on horseback intervened to separate the two groups who for several minutes appeared on the verge of coming to blows.

“The situation in Syria is very complicated, and dropping bombs on that situation is not going to solve anything,” said Lacy MacAuley wearing a “Hands off Syria” headband.

In Los Angeles:

Anti-war protesters took to the streets in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday as the U.S. appeared poised to strike civil war-torn Syria over its use of alleged chemical weapons against rebels.

More than 200 people were involved in the mostly peaceful protests at Pershing Square, beginning about 1:30 p.m. Police cited about 40 people for disrupting traffic in the streets and arrested two protesters who refused to sign the citations, said LAPD Capt. Michael Oreb.

In Cleveland:

CLEVELAND – The protests we’re so used to seeing across the world, Saturday, took place right here in Northeast Ohio as dozens gathered near Public Square in downtown Cleveland to rally against United States military action in Syria.

“No war on Syria! No war on Syria!” shouted protestors, just hours after President Obama addressed the nation saying he decided the U.S. should take military action against the Syrian government.

In San Diego:

BALBOA PARK — Not long after President Barack Obama said Saturday that he wanted congressional approval to attack Syria, dozens of people turned out for a anti-war rally in Balboa Park.

The designated speakers and attendees of the preplanned event voiced opposition to missile strikes or other attacks by the U.S. on Syria for the suspected use of chemical weapons on civilians.

“Have our misadventures in Iraq taught us nothing?” speaker Nadia Keilani asked the 150 or so people gathered by the fountain in front of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on Saturday afternoon.

In Las Vegas:

“We Don’t Belong in Syria.” “Leave Syria Alone.” “No More War.”

The signs hung above Interstate 15 on the Tropicana Avenue overpass Saturday morning.

With tensions rising in Syria and American interest growing, protesters lined the Las Vegas street to exercise their First Amendment rights with a demonstration against a possible U.S.-led attack on the Mideast nation over allegations that the Syrian government used chemical weapons against civilians.
