California bans use of “Redskins” name

NBC Sports – by Mike Florio

The nickname used by one of the NFL teams has no been banned in a state where three NFL teams do business.

Via NBC News, California governor Jerry Brown signed into law on Sunday a provision banning schools from using the term “Redskins” as a team name or logo. The law, which becomes effective on January 1, 2017, affects four California schools.

The National Congress of American Indians said the development should be a “shining example” for the rest of the country — a significant statement since many supporters of the name insist that Native Americans aren’t (or at least shouldn’t be) actually offended by the name.

The Washington NFL team has refused to change its name; opposition has been sporadic, and the issue has become polarizing. Even if the name changes, the debate regarding whether it should have changed will continue for years, if not decades.

  1. The law is unconstitutional, and should not be allowed to stand, regardless of who’s offended by it.

They can call themselves Redskins, Drunken Injuns, Scalp-chopping aborigines, Face-painting wife swappers, Arrow-shooting alcoholics, and it’s all constitutionally protected free expression.

I call the native Americans “Injuns”, because it’s NOT offensive, and it’s unique to their identity. The word “Native” in our culture is synonymous with head-hunting African tribes (probably due to Hollywood), and that’s a bit of an insult in my book. You can’t call them “Indians” anymore because there are too many dot-heads roaming the country, and you don’t want to cause confusion.

    1. Speaking of Aboriginees…

That pedophile, Rolf Harris of Australia, once did a song called “Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport” and a banned line from that song (the line was banned in USA) was this:

“Let me Abbos go loose, Bruce, let me Abbos go loose…they won’t be anymore use, Bruce, so let me Abbos go loose…”

The “swagman” (Aussie for Cowboys) who said this line in the song was dying and he had no more use for “Abbos,” Aussie for Aboriginees…did he mean fire them, or free them, or what?

  2. How’d banning the rebel flag go for ya?
    Now I see it everywhere
    Lmfao as deserved
Tell me I can’t have it and I’m going to go out and get a shit load of em
So now we should name everything in that state starting with Redskins
    F-em

  3. Good ol’ Mike Florio! Nice to read your screeds again, Mikey! Since I no longer follow the NFL I have not been to your PFT website, and, when I was, I usually lambasted your political correctness, but, since I no longer go there, let me say that instead of criticizing your crap, I will say this is just one more reason the NFL will not last too much longer (especially not when it lets cheaters, aka the New England Patriots, win Super Bowls…no, the Not For Long league is too busy being politically correct as well… Next thing you know they’ll try to force the Buffalo Bills to change their name because, well, nobody likes “bills”… or “raiders” or “buccaneers” or “giants” or “titans” or “vikings” or “lions and bengals and bears”–oh my!

  4. I wish I could share your enthusiasm with the demise of the NFL. But it’s freaks on display just like WWF wrestling and we got way too many intelligent people attending these events, paying outrageous ticket prices, spending $14.00 for a warm beer and another $10.00 for a hot dog. Yep, geniuses O’plenty. Here’s your $100.00 T-shirt with a number on it. Either way, Go Packers!
