Canned Heat – Human Condition

Today, the so called “Doctor” would put you on drugs and declare you incompetent.

Well it’s a low down kinda condition
Been running round my brain
Says it may drive me insane

And every organism
That I can hear and see
Seems to have the blues with me

So I went to the doctor
Sat down on her bed
Looked up right at her
This is what she said

“You’re in a human condition
That’s what’s got you down
Human condition
Your face is full of frowns
You’ve got to stand your ground”

“Well, you’re sad, weak and weary”
She went on to say
“Nothing seems to go your way”

“And though you’ve tried and tried
You can’t be satisfied
No-one seems to treat you right”

“But there’s one thing for certain
That you ought to know
There’s been lots of people
In that scene before”

“You’re in a human condition
That’s what’s got you down
Human condition
Your face is full of frowns
You’ve got to stand your ground”

Well I stood up and I left her
And slowly walked away
Looking for a brighter day

And as I thought about it
A new thought came to me
Maybe we cannot be free

Well a whole lot of bad things
The world might throw at you
Stand up straight and strong
It’s the only thing to do

You’re in a human condition
That’s what’s got you down
Human condition
Your face is full of frowns
You’ve got to stand your ground

  1. “Henry Charles Vestine (December 25, 1944 – October 20, 1997)[1] a.k.a. “The Sunflower”, was an American guitar player known mainly as a member of the band Canned Heat. He was with the group from its start in 1966 to July 1969. In later years he played in local bands but occasionally returned to Canned Heat for a few tours and recordings.
Henry Vestine married twice, first in 1965 and in the mid-1970s to Lisa Lack and with whom he moved to Anderson, South Carolina. In 1980 they had a son, Jesse. In 1983, after they separated, Vestine moved to Oregon.

Which was where I met him in ’81. He was living in Blodgett Corners, just south of Philomath. I saw Canned Heat play at the Palladium in ’69 (or ’70… long time ago, memory’s not what it used to be… actually, it was never that great to begin with… LOL). Great concert. 🙂

Never expected to meet one of the members out in the middle of nowhere, years later.

We partied on some wicked Oregon bud and Liberty Caps. 😀

In 2003 Vestine was ranked 77th in Rolling Stone magazine list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”.[2]

  2. I wasn’t “allowed” to post the Studio version that I originally sent (didn’t discover that until I tried to post it) Admin. found an alternative (thank you 🙂 ). However, I wanted y’all to hear the clean/original version. GRRR… 😡
