Common Core

I received this from a good friend of mine tonight.

Had to go to the girls’ school tonight for a gathering. Listened to the principal talk, saw the girls’ classrooms, and had a small dinner.

What made me quite irritated after the first 10 minutes, was while the principal was talking to the parents, she showed the success rate under the common core standards. Talk about absolute SHIT!

The state of Illinois actually dropped it’s standards to 95%. Reading and math success rates were in the 40% and 30% range, respectively. And my kids are stuck learning in this horse-shit way!?!?!

It’s CLEARLY not working, and because the schools will lose funding if they opt out (forced blackmail by the gov’t by the way), they’ll continue on with these failing ways of teaching. Pretty damn frustrating as a parent, I’ll tell ya.

  1. Don’t know why anyone would give their children away day after day to the state, let alone allow the crap they put in their brains, and the crap food they give them to eat. Parents will not change the system, the system will only change their children. So wake up parents and bring your children back home.

    1. I will tell you one reason why. if you are a single parent and not independently wealthy, it is very hard to support a family on no income — pretty much you have to work. It can be very hard to find a type of work that allows you to be home with your kids and homeschool them while you are working. These types of work do exist, but if you have not planned for it all along, and were naive and trusting of schools before your kids started, you may not have prepared a type of career or way of earning money, to be able to be home. This is also true of married parents who may not earn enough individually to support the family, for whatever reason. And you cannot leave children under a certain age home alone during the day while you work, lest CPS become involved.

Having said that, those are simply barriers, and I do think that most families, even single parent families, if they really want to homeschool, can find a way. Though it may take some time and preparation to set up a structure for it.

Just consider, there are many parents who still have their kids in public school, who are appalled with the way things are going, who may be future homeschoolers, but haven’t yet got the structure in place. Give them time. It is not always possible to instantly yank your kids out.

Now, I DID instantly yank my kids out — and it turned out well. But at that time I was able to stay home with the kids while my husband worked. If I had been a single parent then, that would not have been a possibility.

I know many excellent, committed homeschooling parents who started off enrolling their kids in schools, then one thing or another happened, and they came to realize that homeschooling was their best option. But they didn’t start out with that plan before their kids entered school. It was only through the shocking realization of what school has become, that they had to suddenly rethink their plan. (this plan includes career choices, too, so it is not a light decision)

  2. Katie, as a single dad for almost ten years I had no choice but put my kids in public indoctrination…But mornings and evenings I would really talk to them about what they are learning, and would correct the many errors. Basically I told my kids, to try and get good grades but dont believe a word they say…

      1. several facts from my friend

Hey, I took a look at the site after ya sent me the text message. Just a subtle reminder, after reading some of the comments, that we HAVE looked into homeschooling…in case you wanted to pass it on to this “#1 NWO hatr”, “katie” & whoever else may disagree with our choice to keep our kids in school.
Even with homeschooling, you still have to follow the common core guidelines, due to ACT & SAT tests being moved in that direction as well. Two tests that you just-so-happen to need to get into college. They even do it in Christian schools, as my niece will soon find out (in Kindergarten now). Pretty well screwed any way you go with it. Parents hate it, teachers don’t want to teach it, and as much I think the principal is a power hungry woman, I could clearly see as she answered questions that she doesn’t like it either.
The school would close if not for funding, resulting in over-sized classrooms somewhere else, and students getting even worse attention & education than what they already have. There’s not enough people, parents & money in this state to change it either. Not with Chicago at the helm.
The wife & I have taken it upon ourselves to teach them the way we, you, and anyone that can read this has learned, on top of this asinine “program” they’re taught in school.

Feel free to copy & paste.

        1. That’s a great comment from your friend! I hope to provide some “cheering on” with regard to the college SAT/ACT thing. IMO, (I have more than 1 child in/through college), SAT/ACT is not the required be-all and end-all (in that, it is not worth it, if that is the reason, to put your kids through 12 years of indoctrination to be able to get good scores on these exams). I cannot say what the state of college education is going to be in another 10 or so years. Right now, there are good reasons to question sending your child (similar reasons to the “common core” reasons, plus all the student loan debt). But homeschoolers tend to do very well on SAT/ACT tests, and I bet that a non-indoctrinated, classically educated homeschooled student can take an SAT prep class and learn how to play that game to get a good score. If homeschooling is a possibility for your family, be assured that homeschooling will NOT shut your child out of college. If that’s a goal for your child.

          1. Yes EE i am proud to have him as a friend. He’s a good man, and cares for his family with a passion. He has a good head on his shoulders, and knows how to counter propaganda. He’s awake, which is a big positive here in the communist state of IL.

          2. 🙂 Paul, I bet a lot more people are waking up as a direct result of Common Core. It is getting harder and harder to stay asleep, with all the dissonant noise 😉

  3. That principals deserves to be smacked in the face and I’m sick of those assholes using the “we will lose our funding” excuse if they opt out of Common Core. That’s NO EXCUSE! If the kids are achieving and learning, then the school has nothing to worry about because more parents will want to bring their kids there. If they are not learning, then funding has nothing to do with it and it’s the administration’s and their curriculum’s problem. Hire the right teachers and discipline the students the right way and they won’t have any problems. Finally, get rid of every damn police officer stationed at the school. It’s a SCHOOL not a FEMA CAMP!

  4. My granddaughter brought a book home she was required to read which was a novel story about a “cultist communal society”. In the book, given here to twelve year old’s, I found that it presented, euthanasia (the old were “released”), how nakedness causes “stirring” of the emotions, of communal living, communal sharing of “feelings”, communal caring of the elderly and very young, young babies are taken from the mother and sent to communal care, the whole book resembles former Marxist communal living, ideology, and atheism.

Public education has progressively dove into the pits of vice, Marxism, atheism, pornography, anti-Christian values, etc, it has become a cesspool of degradation and indoctrination – all planned years ago, all in full mode, all indoctrinating our children into “communal” Marxist/Liberal oriented citizens. The majority of parents do not know near a fraction of what is being taught in the schools, most do not care, many refuse to admit that this cesspool of indoctrination exists, and then the others feel helpless other than those that do take their children out and home school them.

There is one home school program run by “Seton” that is not only top of the line in formal education, a program that instills patriotism, love of God and family, has the most classical and intellectual curriculum, etc, but also is so easy to use that it should be number one on anyone’s list. It’s a “traditional classical” program and the daily, weekly, and monthly assignments are all completely outlined, you virtually have to do little but to make sure your kids do the assignments, which are all self explaining. Tests, reviews and near all is already done for the parent and the child can finish all his or her weekly work in from three to four days easy if they want and have three and four day weekends and still cover “more” than a public student would work through in five or six days and more.

  5. What’s funny/sad is that most of you act as if it would be THE GOAL of the government to raise American’s IQ’s!??

    To understand the WHY of Common Core, I suggest you all watch George Carlin, here. It is really quite true;

” ‘They’ don’t want a population capable of critical thinking…”

I suggest you watch ANY street corner where there is virtually ZERO TRAFFIC. Watch any pedestrian. THEY SIMPLY CANNOT CROSS UNTIL THE WALK SIGNAL ‘TELLS’ THEM TO.

Sheep. Absolute, 100% sheep. Americans almost cannot function without be told to do something.

AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE US GOVERNMENT WANTS.

    ~Occams
    .

    1. In some communities, a person can get arrested for jaywalking for crossing against the light, even if there is no traffic…

      1. Ohhhhhhhhhhh…That’s riiiiiiiiiiight!

It’s “illegal”, and since we’re the “freest nation on earth”, we should all pay strict attention to ‘the law’.

        Pffffffftttttttttttttttttt

  6. This post is for the naysayers:

Despite the fact that we were quite poor at the time–few would hire my husband since we were friends with a certain individual who would later “lead” the “Republic of Texas” movement–and we took NO govt. “benefits” like food stamps, Medicaid, WIC (and we were definitely in the “below poverty level” income range)–we stilll managed to homeschool both children…there was NO FREAKIN’ WAY I was sending the kids to public school (even if the local school was considered better than most and highly rated in Texas)–I myself had taught in public school (HS math) so I knew how bad it could get. It got so bad income wise for us we had to move for 8 months to El Paso so I could earn money–but at night I some of the homeschooling (my husband did the rest during the day).

If you are a single mother and are intelligent enough to do so, homeschool at night (it only takes a couple of hours to complete all the subjects, and the kids can do the homework while the mother is working), and work during the day. If both parents work they can also share in the homeschooling. If one of the siblings is several years older, he or she can help homeschool the younger siblings.

If you are wealthy enough, send your kid to private school in a non-Common Core state or to a non-Common Core school. If you are very wealthy, send him or her overseas.

IMHO, there is NO EXCUSE FOR almost any parent (save those who are mentally or physically challenged) to NOT home school their children.

  7. You naysayers are confusing schooling with babysitting. Get a babysitter. Teach your own children. Why are you letting the government dictate to you regarding your own children. They will own you and your children.
