Coven – “One Tin Soldier” ( The Legend Of Billy Jack )

Published on Aug 23, 2012 by MrPurser

Jinx Dawson of ‘Coven’ sang this song at a 1971 session with the film’s orchestra as part of the soundtrack for the movie Billy Jack. Jinx asked that the band be listed on the recording and film, not her as a solo artist. This record release, titled “One Tin Soldier: The Legend of Billy Jack,” reached #26 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1971 but was pulled from the charts by the film producers due to legal squabbles over the rights to the recording. The full Coven band then re-recorded the song and released it on their album.

    1. Sounds like you are a new comer here Randy. As we do post music here Randy. Maybe you should check it out before you speak because obviously you haven`t been here very long.

    2. Hello Randy. When soldiers are at war, they still enjoy entertainment when they are on r and r. This site (movement) is similar to that situation. Thus the humor, and music. Be sure sir, this site is
SERIOUS in its quest to rid this nation of the evil forces that have invaded our government, and our land.

      1. Plus, if you listen to the lyrics of the specific songs we post you will find that they SAY Something that is relevent to the site and topics discussed here (injustice, the struggles we’ve endured/are enduring, the battle, strength, hope, anger, etc.) The lyrics are Not MTV Pop/Bubblegum BS.

  1. Listen, children, to a story
    That was written long ago,
‘Bout a kingdom on a mountain
    And the valley-folk below.

On the mountain was a treasure
    Buried deep beneath the stone,
    And the valley-people swore
They’d have it for their very own.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgement day,
    On the bloody morning after….
    One tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill,
    Asking for the buried treasure,
Tons of gold for which they’d kill.

Came an answer from the kingdom,
“With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain,
    All the riches buried there.”

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgement day,
    On the bloody morning after….
    One tin soldier rides away.

Now the valley cried with anger,
“Mount your horses! Draw your sword!”
    And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.

Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it…
“Peace on Earth” was all it said.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgement day,
    On the bloody morning after….
    One tin soldier rides away.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
    Come the judgement day,
    On the bloody morning after….
    One tin soldier rides away.
