‘Disarm the NYPD!’: Protesters respond to Gray homicide rulingNY Post – by Amanda Lozada, Leonica Valentine and Melkorka Licea

It was a May Day for Freddie Gray.

Over a thousand protesters marched from Union Square to Foley Square Friday, demanding “disarm the NYPD” just hours after Gray’s death was ruled a homicide at the hands of police.

Worker’s rights activists took to the streets alongside New Yorkers demonstrating against police brutality.

“We need to make sure that there’s not one more loss, not one more police murder of black and brown youth in this country!” exclaimed Imani Henry of the People’s Power Assembly.

Police helicopters hovered over the massive crowd, which began marching downtown around 5:30 p.m. Several streets, including parts of Second Avenue, were closed off to make way for the protesters.

Roslyn Harte, 90, was stuck behind a barrier in a yellow taxi cab for 20 minutes as she waited for all the demonstrators to walk down East 14th Street.

“I’m looking at the signs and going ‘huh?’ In the 1960s May Day was a communist league, now they don’t know who they are protesting,” she said, adding, “As long as they do it peacefully I don’t mind.”

Demonstrators held signs saying: “Black and brown lives matter,” “Disarm the Police!” and “Create no cop zones.”

Together they chanted songs from previous city protests including, “Eric Garner, Michael Brown, shut it down, shut it down” and “How do you spell racist? NYPD How do you spell murderer? NYPD.”

“People who have sympathies with young black men being shot down in the street, and police terror understand the connection between the power of the state and crushing unions,” said Manhattan activist Betsy Mickel.

Marchers were encouraged that six cops were charged in connection to Gray’s death on April 12.

“They were all charged, that was what we needed,” said Brooklyn resident Yvette Remie. “At least we get some satisfaction, but we will see what the outcome is.”

Hundreds of worker’s rights advocates also gathered at 60th and Park around 4 p.m., where they began a march towards Columbus Circle.

  1. “Demonstrators held signs saying: “Black and brown lives matter,” “Disarm the Police!” and “Create no cop zones.””

Playing the Commie Race card, are we? I guess whites and everyone else don’t matter, then?

Just more proof that these protests are Commie funded by George Soros along with Barry and company.

  2. ““I’m looking at the signs and going ‘huh?’ In the 1960s May Day was a communist league, now they don’t know who they are protesting,” she said, adding, “As long as they do it peacefully I don’t mind.””

How can she say something so true and follow it up with a comment that slaps herself in the face.

Like saying, “Robbing a bank is bad, but as long as they leave me alone and don’t rob me, I don’t mind”.

    Unfrigginbelievable…..
