NYC Valentine’s Day Sewage Tour Back By ‘Demand’

sewageHuffington Post

NEW YORK — Lovers of the unusual are getting another chance to impress their Valentines this year in New York City.

The Department of Environmental Protection is again offering Valentine’s Day tours of the Newtown Creek sewage treatment plant in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint section.

The DEP says it’s offering three tours this year due to “overwhelming demand.”

The 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. tours were quickly filled. So another was added at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Highlights include the plant’s giant egg-shaped digesters, which break down noxious waste into harmless sludge and gas.

During last year’s tour, the plant’s gung-ho superintendent warned the visitors a digester egg was about to emit a foul odor. It didn’t disappoint.

  1. Well gee wizz Angel, we got to get you and your hubby outta there. I`m working on it. Ask Henry to give you my add. or else tell Henry to give me yours. I will work on something for ya`ll!!

    1. Aw, thanks diggerdan.
As I told Henry, when I sent this to him, “If anyone took me there for Valentine’s Day, they’d get Dumped!”

      1. Yea Angel, I remember about that dolphin – I think it was that got lost in your area about 2 weeks ago. Talk about a sh*t job for a place to live down there in the NY area lately. WOW.

        1. I’m nowhere near there. My West Village neighborhood has become so gentrified, the street I face is now known as “Little Rodeo Drive.” LOL/:(
Shoot, I came through Sandy & Nemo with flying colors. Bloomie won’t allow disrupting the tourists (aka turrorists).

          1. I used to like these good old fashioned winter snow storms when I was young but they realy suck now that I am old and tired. Hold on there you guys. I can`t wait for the warm temp.s

  2. Awww……Hallmark’s gonna have some major competition this year.

“Nothing says ‘I love you’ like an unforgettable tour to one of the smelliest places on Earth. Don’t forget to stop by to the souvenir shop where you can purchase a sloppy Valentine’s Day card made from recycled raw sewage.

Newtown Creek sewage treatment plant: Where the wonderfully, foul smell of romance is in the air.”
