NYT: White House Wants Holder to Resign

Presidential aides are privately admitting to a growing frustration inside the White House with Attorney General Eric Holder’s political ineptness in the press leak investigations and are hoping the embattled appointee will resign from office, The New York Times reports.

“The White House is apoplectic about him, and has been for a long time,” said an anonymous Democrat source, identified only as a former government employee who acknowledged the White House staffers in question are his friends.

President Barack Obama’s advisers are frustrated with Holder’s inability to foresee problems arising from his approval of a subpoena naming a Fox News reporter as a coconspirator in an espionage investigation. Now Congress is looking at whether Holder lied under oath when he testified last month that he knew nothing about the incident.

Additionally, Holder has become a lightening rod for criticism for pulling the phone records of 100 Associated Press reporters in another polarizing investigation.

“How hard would it be to anticipate that the AP would be unhappy?” the former official said. “And then they haven’t defended their position.”

The New York Times article highlighted a rare glimpse of the interworking of the White House social circle, stating that Holder’s “saving grace through years of controversies has been the friendship of two women close to Mr. Obama” – First Lady Michelle Obama, who is good friends with Holder’s wife, and Valerie Jarrett, the president’s senior adviser.

In addition to the press leak scandals, Holder has come under attack for his agency’s participation in the botched gun-trafficking investigation “Fast and Furious,” for which Holder was found in contempt of Congress.

And, in 2009, Holder made a contentious decision to prosecute September 11 terrorists in a Manhattan civilian court, but his decision was eventually reversed.

Bob Woodward of the Washington Post brought up the New York Times story during a press roundtable discussion on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” and said both Holder and Obama need to explain this and other unfolding scandals to the American people

“It’s all very troubling, and you lump all these things, IRS and Benghazi together, and what you’ve got is a feeling that no one’s coming clean, we aren’t getting straight talk,” Woodward said.

“This goes to President Obama, he’s got to find a way to unravel this. We live in an age of distrust, I think it’s more severe now, and he has to find some way to clean this up and say this is what happened,” Woodward said.

David Ignatius, a columnist and associate editor at the Washington Post, said the larger question is whether Holder has done a good job as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

“In terms of the critique of Eric Holder, the problem is Eric Holder has been a weak attorney general,” Ignacious said.

Friends of Holder told the Times that the attorney general does not want to leave his job working for the government because he does not like working in the private sector, but there are rumblings he might resign as early as this fall.

William M. Daley, Obama’s former chief of staff, spoke on the record to the Times and said that as long as Holder runs the department in a competent manner and remains a friend of Obama, he would not be drummed out of the administration for political reasons.

“Whoever Barack Obama puts in there, these people will try to drumbeat him out of there, no matter what,” Daley said.

Tom Brokaw, the former NBC “Nightly News” anchor, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the Times article exemplifies the typical Washington two-step – being praised on the record, “but at the same time there’s another part of that two-step that is going on in which people are saying it would be better if he left, it would be better for the president to get this cleaned up.”

Brokaw there is a political double standard in play with regards to how the Obama administration scandals are playing.

“From a political point of view, one of the ways that you can measure the impact of all of this and the fairness of it, is think if this had happened in the Bush administration with John Ashcroft as the attorney general. You know full well that the Democrats and the left would be going very hard after them,” Brokaw said.

  1. “The White House is apoplectic about him, and has been for a long time,”

Apoplectic? How long have they been waiting to put that word in a conversation?

Honestly, I think these politicians just sit around all day with a dictionary in their hands, studying new words that they hope they can use in their next conversation.

Why can’t they just say they are “extremely upset” or “extremely angry” with Holder?

Apoplectic? Really? Does that make you feel like a big, intelligent politician? Does that make you think that we can just forgive the rest of your incompetence and scandals under your watch in addition to Holder’s? Does that make us think you are an upstanding man who can no longer be considered to be involved in all of this?

    Ok I forgive you.

On second thought, scratch that. I’m just going to beat you over the head with your little dictionary until you go unconscious and wake up with a big unidentifiable lump on your head that no dictionary will have words to define. How’s about that? Sound good?

    What a bunch of assholes.

    1. Re “. . . . . I think these politicians just sit around all day with a dictionary in their hands, studying new words . . . . . ” NC – Nah pal, ya got it wrong there. They dont look it up themselves, they HIRE some pr#@k – usually a friend, relative or some big donors kids/ mistress/ misterress and pay them a shitload out of public funds/taxes. The poli’s need to spend all their spare time “schmoozing”, looking and listening for tips, rawts, etc to get rich quick on. ONLY reason to go to washington. Thats why they dont give a shit about the Constitution – it’s all about them ! F#@kers !!

  2. Only two things come to mind about his refusal to resign, and Obama’s seeming blind eye to anything Holder does.

Either Holder has something on Obama, and Obama is stuck with him, no matter how damaging to the WH he may be. (not likely)

Or, Holder is a part of a larger plan by Obama, and the current inventory of Justice Department scandals are only the tip of the iceberg, and will dwarf in comparison to what’s coming in the future. (more likely)

Either way, Holder is there because Obama wants him there.

  3. “Now Congress is looking at whether Holder lied under oath when he testified last month that he knew nothing about the incident.”

Umm…if he lied once already, what’s to stop him from lying again? Do they really have to spend hours researching that? He’s already held in Criminal Contempt of Congress. Just arrest the bastard and get it over with!!! And no I don’t want him to only be fired from his job. I WANT HIM IN PRISON FOR LIFE!!!!! ACCOUNTABILITY PEOPLE!!!!!!

    1. What a crock of shit the “under oath” argument is. From either side.

Any politician that takes an Oath of Office is under oath from that day forward concerning ANYTHING that is done in their official capacity.

Testifying before Congress certainly falls into that category.

      1. Just to be clear, NC. The above was an attack on the argument used by the parties involved. Not against you for adding it to this dialog.

Once in a dispute on a house closing where the opposing lawyer was ignoring terms of the contract, my lawyer told me “contracts apply to everyone, except lawyers.”

I’m afraid the same basic principal applies here.

  4. “David Ignatius, a columnist and associate editor at the Washington Post, said the larger question is whether Holder has done a good job as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.”

Apparently to you, the biggest question is not whether he ordered the execution of innocent people, smuggled guns, committed crimes against humanity, money laundering and who knows what else, but that we should all tell our children and future generations that he should be judged and evaluated on whether he did a good job at the office or not?

Please do us all a favor and take a chair, walk over to the corner, put a dunce cap on your head, take your pen and notepad that you are holding and beat yourself over the head with them until some neurons in that hollow head of yours start to light up.

By the way, Ignatius. In the words of Donald Trump, “YOU’RE FIRED!”.

““From a political point of view, one of the ways that you can measure the impact of all of this and the fairness of it, is think if this had happened in the Bush administration with John Ashcroft as the attorney general. You know full well that the Democrats and the left would be going very hard after them,” Brokaw said.”

Brokaw, take your false left vs right paradigm and shove it up your ass. They are BOTH bad and BOTH need to be put in prison for crimes against humanity and mass murder and who knows what else.

  5. My Fellow Americans:

    More Treason.

    Lets look at the “Holder-Gambit”:

If Eric Holder resigns, this is a clear admission HE has done wrong, and had done so of his own volition, and will be susceptible to legal fall out.

If Obama fires him, it is an indication that someone Ocrapao has,… “publicly”,… put so much trust in, is incompetent, dishonest, criminal, or in reality,.. all the above. In addition, it would be a clear indication that Obama is scape-goating him for the last little parade of attention distracting scandals.

Lastly, no matter if Holder walks on his own, or is booted,… the moment he leaves office, he will lose his ability to shield himself from legal intrigues,… in other words he will lose his defacto immunity.

This entire gov’t is nothing but a collection of Charles Manson type criminals, that will turn and feed on each other in the blink of an eye, hence the unwilingnes of Ocrapo to throw away his Blame-Ticket (if he fired Holder),.. and Holder’s need to stay in office for his Defacto-Immunity (refuses to resign).

The whole lot of them are guilty from head to toe,…. a thousand times over. When will the Secret Service, FBI, DHS, DOJ or any of the other thousand or so gov;’t agencies going to do their job?,…. Oh!,.. thats right,.. they not going to,…. ever.

JD – US Marines – There is only one way to save our country,… and it starts with arresting, trying and convicting nearly the entire US fed Gov’t! (That will help keep the “Private Prisons” at its 90+% capacity,… with REAL criminals!)

    1. That’s a good start JD, then we arrest all attendees at the Bilderberg group meeting and make proper use of those FEMA Relocation Facilities.

      1. YAHOO!!! FEMA camps for all Bilderberg members! HOORAY!!! Feed them GMO’s and Monsanto foods, forevermore!

        1. Hey NC, feeding them GMO foods could be interpreted as “cruel and unusual” punishment. lol 🙂

  6. Holder’s former law firm caters exclusively to Wall Street. They own him. Obama has no say in the matter. Jarret is just more seasoning. Same tribe

  7. Obama “wants” Holder to resign? Maybe Mr. Fast and Furious is waiting for Barack to say “Pretty please with sugar on top.”? Two things come to mind. First, this unqualified clown should have never gotten the job in the first place. And second…it only took Obama 5+ years to grasp the obvious. Wait…one more…I think if Holder goes down, he’ll roll on Obama in a heartbeat to save his own worthless ass. So it may come down to keep him or “accident” him.

    1. Of course Scott, Holder gets fired and he rolls over and then one rolls over on the other and it will be the old snow ball effect and the whole damned pos govt. will go down – at all levels – and they cannot have that can they. That is what the govt. is about.

        1. I hope he does pardon him Millard. In fact, I hope he issues pardons to darn near every member of his administration. I can’t think of a more blantent way to show us what a contemptable pack of liars, cheats and thieves they truely are. Perhaps being confronted with the proof the whole damn government is infested with criminals will force a mass awakening. Hey…I can hope right?

  8. Without a detailed expose of previous AGs, it is difficult to compare how bad Holder is. I don’t believe previous AGs were all that sweet and apolitical. In any case, Holder did not act alone and he did not act independently while in office. To be asked to resign is too little too late.

If he resigns without any admission of wrong doing, nothing gets fixed in the system which spawned him – even if some form of justice is attempted after he leaves office.

    1. Let’s compare what a fine job Holder has done along with a few of the more recent Attorney Generals. Alberto Gonzales, what credentials he had. John “Soar Like An Eagle” Ashcroft -religously insane, and Janet (Waco) Reno. I guess if your going to work for the government as Attorney General, you must have the credentials of incompetence, dishonesty, and no morals! 🙂

      1. Since they’re all attorneys the last two of your required credentials are a given.

  9. The NYT spin is “The WH wants…” The truth is, AMERICANS IN THE KNOW want Holder’s resignation and the WH is attempting to distance themselves from this entire fiasco. Holder IS the WH, just like Barry, Killary Clinton, John Kerry, Valerie Jarrett, Bill Daley, the MSM, and the rest of the Israhell ass-kissing dual citizens. If by some slim chance Holder is removed, the truth will be swept under the rug, the accessories will have saved face using Holder as the cover-story fall guy, and Holder will never see prison, but will likely end up owning, or at least be a major investment partner in law firm(s) protecting this racket for many years to come. They’re all corporate-controlled revolving door political Jew-tools that should be incarcerated along with their handlers.

  10. All they need to do is tell the american people its open season on him. We will take care of the rest. no need to fire him.

  11. He’s just waiting until he’s offered a better, more powerful, and more lucrative position, like the criminals in the IRS, since these people are ALWAYS rewarded for their crimes.

You and I would be so far in prison they’d have to shoot beans to us with a cannon, but for treasonous fu&*s like Holder, the reward is always better than what they had.

  12. Re “. . . . . I think these politicians just sit around all day with a dictionary in their hands, studying new words . . . . . ” NC – Nah pal, ya got it wrong there. They dont look it up themselves, they HIRE some prick – usually a friend, relative or some big donors kids/ mistress/ misterress and pay them a shitload out of public funds/taxes.
